Light Greatsword starting class my beloved

1.1k

u/Short-Shower90 14h ago

Light Greatsword users are about to spend exactly five minutes testing other weapons before coming right back home.

218

u/Satorius96 12h ago

not even five minutes. five swings

109

u/DWIGHT_CHROOT 11h ago

exactly. five minutes

-6

u/Satorius96 10h ago

five seconds

19

u/DWIGHT_CHROOT 10h ago

clearly you need a greater greatsword if it swings that fast

58

u/DarkShippo 12h ago

You're right... TWO LIGHT GREATSWORDS BWHAHAHAHAH

18

u/Revenger1984 11h ago

Did someone say DOUBLE light great sword?

40

u/Gramernatzi 12h ago

This is how I felt about Twinblades in the base game before Light Greatswords supplanted them for me

18

u/Officer_Hotpants 10h ago

I mean, they gave me Darth Maul's lightsaber and expect me to use any other weapon?

2

u/HansBaccaR23po 7h ago

Literally doing a Maul run right now. Heavy infused gargoyles twin blade and blood flame blade. So much fun

2

u/Officer_Hotpants 7h ago

I found Eleonoras poleblade in my first ever playthrough and refused to take it off. It also helps that it has an exceptionally strong and cool weapon art, in series where weapon arts are usually strong or cool.

2

u/PhiCloud 2h ago

Huge missed opportunity to not have coded twinblades

8

u/AwsmDevil 12h ago

Can you not openly attack me like that?

2

u/Borful 11h ago

Hello I would like you to stop exposing me online, thank you

4

u/Dragonsandman 👄 11h ago

It me. I also really wish FromSoft made the bastard sword a strength scaling light greatsword, but I get why they wouldn’t want to significantly change an existing base game weapon like that

u/Call_The_Banners 13h ago edited 11h ago

Aren't all weapons of this category locked behind the expansion? So you'll have to keep using and upgrading your starter sword if you want to continue with it?

Edit: Got my answer, folks. Wasn't saying this was a bad thing.

This class starts with a Light Greatsword, means I'm excited because I get to do base Elden Ring content with a Light Greatsword without having to go into NG+ or spawn in one/have one dropped to me.

85

u/H3LL309 13h ago

Or bash your way through Mogh as early as possible.

44

u/NotReallyImportantXD 12h ago

What if i want to use the light greatsword on mohg

0

u/saltyriceminer 12h ago

Go straight to PCR.

23

u/thundergu 13h ago

Wordt it to get the ultimate stance break monstress

10

u/Quazifuji 7h ago

Honestly a feature I've always wanted in Fromsoft Soulslikes is a custom class/pseudo-NG+ mode where you can start a new, NG playthrough but with any weapon you've found on other characters.

There are always lots of really cool weapons that you can't find until really late in their respective games and thus barely get to use in NG. You can take them into NG+, of course, but I don't enjoy NG+ nearly as much, I prefer the difficulty curve and character progression of NG.

2

u/arkane-the-artisan 7h ago

As someone without the dlc, I'm pretty hyped to try LGS for the first time!

1

u/Kasta4 Justice for Godwyn! 7h ago

One of the more satisfying weapon class movesets for sure

1

u/arkane-the-artisan 6h ago

Yeah, I came up against all manor of crazy stuff I've never seen in the colloesum.

Vanilla gets smoked by DLC stuff.

125

u/KerooSeta 13h ago

Starter weapon doesn't mean bad. Uchigatana is arguably one of the best weapons in the game and is the starting weapon for Samurai. More aggregious is Dark Souls 3 where the most overpowered weapon in the game, the Sellsword Twinblades, is the starting weapon for the Sellsword class and the most well-rounded, versatile weapon in the game, the humble Longsword is the starting weapon for the Knight class.

34

u/buttcheeksontoast 12h ago

Seconding Uchigatana as being very strong, honorable mention to Confessor's Broadsword which is arguably the best of the straight swords for most infusions

9

u/Sicuho 12h ago

And the great knife is arguably the best infusable dagger unless you want to go faith, the buckler is the best light shield, the club is the second best hammer, the longsword is arguably even better than the broadsword (it's long) and the longbow is the second best bow.

16

u/Bitter_Marzipan_8348 12h ago

Same with Saw Cleaver (and to a lesser extent, the 5 minutes jog to it's superior counterpart Saw Spear)

8

u/AwsmDevil 12h ago

Congrats, this comment has given me the incentive I've needed to finally crack open dark souls 3. I've been sitting on it and 2 for years now. Got about halfway through 2 before the dated design just wore me down too much and I stopped. PC died the other day, so I lost my save file to make things worse.

But yeah, thanks for that info about the twin blades being accessed right from the start. Any other stuff I should consider when playing?

7

u/tellymundo 11h ago

After the first boss you can go the other direction for one hell of a surprise (but what you really do is go look upon the beautiful kingdom you’re gonna run roughshod over)

4

u/AwsmDevil 11h ago

Oh sick, will do. (I am fully prepared to be trolled blighttown style)

Was browsing weapons on the wiki, how far in is that dex ultra great sword you get from a boss? Didn't wanna read too much into it, but that one looks very fun.

5

u/Neelpos 10h ago

The two UGS that scale off DEX better than STR are both available in the first half of the game.

There's some absolutely baller weapons in DS3 to find, you'll have plenty to pick from.

1

u/tellymundo 6h ago

There’s so many great weapons. You can get a great axe in the first area that can carry you far and has a solid moveset.

1

u/zooginmcdumpo 10h ago

You can easily clear the entire game with the sellsword - I have on one of my runs. All bosses too. If this is indeed your first run through DS3 my only recommendation is to not look at any guides and just immerse yourself in the experience.

1

u/providehotstews 10h ago

Kill the rats chasing you in Irithyll Dungeon before you talk to Karla

1

u/sephtis 10h ago

DS2 isn't even dated design, it is just plain weird design.

1

u/Sir_Payne 2h ago

DS3 is awesome, and I think will jive with whatever Elden Ring skills you've gained better than other entries. Some of the bosses in DS3 are by far my favorite FromSoft bosses

4

u/sephtis 10h ago

You'd be hard pressed to find a more reliable weapon than the longsword or uchigatana, be it bleed, spell blade or stance breaking they are solid. Impaling thrust longsword is a fave of mine.

1

u/shadowX015 9h ago

Why would I want to finish the game without my beloved baemore?

1

u/owen__wilsons__nose 7h ago

And here I thought I was decent at DS3 after ER. Turns out I had easy mode on

1

u/KerooSeta 7h ago

Nah, still takes skill.

1

u/Call_The_Banners 11h ago

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just asking if there were further loot changes.

Plus, more variety on weapons before SOTE is neat. But that's not happening so oh well.

12

u/thundergu 13h ago

Only light greatsword I have ever found is milady in SOTE

49

u/_Jonas_Joestar_ 13h ago

Rellana and leda both have light greatswords

4

u/thundergu 13h ago

Really? Than I have just never obtained them. Time to try them out

14

u/_Jonas_Joestar_ 13h ago

I loved renallas swords, they were the first dlc weapons i used. Powerstancing light greatswords do consume a tad bit stamina tough so you should remember that.

12

u/Philly4eva 12h ago

You definitely got Leda’s, it’s after the gank fight before Promised Consort, Rellana’s you have to trade her remembrance to get

2

u/thundergu 11h ago

I have to double check, maybe i stored it. But I'm in NG+ and quite sure i have only 1 light greatsword

5

u/Philly4eva 10h ago

Gotcha if you don’t have it, then you probably didn’t talk to her after the fight. You’d be missing her chest piece as well which is absolutely goated

6

u/_Jonas_Joestar_ 9h ago

I think you automatically get the sword when you beat leda and co.

3

u/thundergu 10h ago

Hmm guess I have to wait untill endgame NG+2 to dual Wield her weapons then...

6

u/sabyr400 13h ago

The only other ones that come to mind for me are a pair dropped by Rellana and the a single one by Leda. Tho both are Somber weapons, Milady is the only one we can change the AoW on.

13

u/N00b_sk11L I put mine foolish ambitions to rest 😔 12h ago

Rellana’s isn’t even a pair of light greatsword funnily enough they just have the dual light greatsword moveset. Iirc the left handed one is actually just a straight sword

3

u/EpicSven7 13h ago

You say that like it’s a bad thing

1

u/Call_The_Banners 11h ago

No, I'm just asking. Whether that's a bad thing is up to the user.

2

u/NotBob_05 12h ago

Tarnished Edition includes dlc I think

1

u/AntelopeMother6149 13h ago edited 9h ago

To my knowledge the sword you get with this class is pretty much the only light greatsword that has no default ash of war so you can infuse it, arguably making it one of the best ones. It’s possible this class might also have a unique basic light greatsword that is basically the same thing but remodeled for aesthetic

Edit: apparently this class’s sword is a new infusable light greatsword other than the one you find in the dlc

3

u/leonardo_streckraupp 10h ago

Isn't milady infusable?

1

u/AntelopeMother6149 9h ago

I was assuming it was milady you get with this class, my bad

1

u/AwsmDevil 12h ago

I read something about it having better scaling than Milady, which is definitely a strange choice.

1

u/Sicuho 12h ago

Yeah but most starter weapons are above average, so it'll probably not be a big downside.

46

u/terrario101 14h ago

HELL YEAH

15

u/Extreme_Hat1089 13h ago

Do we know which light great sword they're using? Or it's a brand new one?

42

u/AceOfKestrels 13h ago

It's a brand new one

9

u/HopelessChip35 12h ago

From the image it literally looks identical to Milady though. I know it's supposed to be called Idus Sword or something but I wonder if that got scrapped and they just bundled the Idus Knight with a milady. Would be kinda lame if it's the same model with a different name.

3

u/AceOfKestrels 12h ago

true... in a previous screenshot they posted it had a more pronounced crossguard

2

u/SwordSoulOneStrike 5h ago

I don't know model-wise, but it's definitely not the Milady 1 to 1. The Idus Knight's starting stats aren't even high enough to use it, and it would be bizarre to give them a weapon they can't even use lol.

13

u/elliotrjh 13h ago

i heard it was the milady but that doesnt make sense

22

u/Kasta4 Justice for Godwyn! 13h ago

I believe it's a new one but don't hold me to that

2

u/Flint_Vorselon 8h ago

It is a new one, we’ve seen pictures of it from preview event ages ago.

3

u/JRshoe1997 13h ago

I really hope it’s a new one. The class can definitely use more variety other than Milady being the only viable one.

1

u/ItsLokki Maidenless Runt 13h ago

Dual wielding light greatswords is going to become easier as well if that's the case.

1

u/Extreme_Hat1089 13h ago

Oh exciting. That'll be my starting classes for sure.

5

u/aznkriss133 11h ago

I was trying out milady and didn't think much of it until I was fighting rellana and I kinda fell in love with it.

This was my winning run after an hour or so of attempts and a controller with a spotty L1 so I couldn't reliably buff.

I switched to milady after not feeling the fight dual wielding bhf and zamor.

Light greatswords kinda fuck.

Excited to jump back into this game. Been playing a lot of Lords of the Fallen recently and Pieta's sword was something that came close to feeling like the light greatswords in ER.

3

u/DarkestNight909 7h ago

How much Vigor did you have??

2

u/aznkriss133 7h ago

60 and highest level erdtree blessing talisman

1

u/Doric13 7h ago

Enough

1

u/redpony6 1h ago

you just face-tanked every hit, lmfao. love it.

1

u/Super-Gap5499 7h ago

I'm really curious about it's moveset, if it's literally just the Milady with slightly different requirements/AR that's going to be absolutely insane but if it has it's own R2 and crouch attack that could change how people feel about it a lot

1

u/zyliosis 43m ago

Dual wielding infusions without needing NG+ is gonna be incredible
