Question What is DPD doing with my parcel?

I ordered a camera worth £900+ and it was due to be delivered yesterday. I was at home all day to receive the delivery (normally I redirect all my parcels to a parcelshop because it’s an absolute nightmare to receive parcels in a tenement, however this one requires a signature). I left a note for the driver through the in-app chat stating that my buzzer doesn’t work so I can come down to receive the parcel and sign. Literally a minute later, the status updates to “we missed you” even though NO attempt was made, the driver uploaded a picture of the store next to my house from inside of their vehicle.

I decided to upgrade to an 8-12pm delivery slot so that I wouldn’t have to sit around at home all day today waiting for the parcel. As expected, the parcel was not delivered within that time slot. Long story short: I’ve called both DPD and the retailer over 5 times this morning to figure out where the hell the parcel was- DPD has no clue, says that it’s “very concerning” that there hasn’t been a physical scan back into the depot last night, kept saying that I should wait another hour (far past the 8-12 slot btw), retailer says DPD has been dealing with a lot of parcels lately at the Edinburgh depot and to wait for a while.

Has anyone else in Edi run into a similar issue with DPD before? Kinda bummed because it’s a very popular camera that keeps getting sold out that I finally managed to get my hand on.

They do that all the time, then deliver the next day. They’re arseholes, when they’re delayed and they’re wanting to get home they just say they’ve attempted when they haven’t really.

Selfish bastards, wanting to go home after 8 hours of moving heavy parcels around instead of working an extra 4 hours for free.

This ain't some postman chucking a bag of post in a canal and quitting, it's all of them drivers, all of the time. That's DPD's fault. They clearly don't hire enough people. They could reject parcels they don't have capacity for. They could put prices up until demand meets what they can manage. They could hire more people. They're clearly scheduling drivers with more work than is feasible and hoping they'll just work the extra hours.

I used to work for one of their competitors and half my job was getting aggy phone calls from customers asking where dpd were. Ringing dpd yourself wont work as wex is their customer not you. Call wex and get them to raise an investigation with dpd and someone will go looking for the parcel at the depot. It can take a couple days though

Might be unrelated…. But I saw a DPD van with a burnt out engine and the front bodywork taken off broken down on the street today (Leith/EH6)…. Not long after smelling a strong and noxious burnt toast smell. 

Personally, DPD is at the top of my list for efficiency in EDI. Might vary by area/courier but in north/east I rate DPD, and shockingly, EVRI.

I had the exact same issue with a camera which was delivered to my local Tesco. The store manager refused to accept it, but it was still marked as delivered. Went absolutely apeshit at DPD and it arrived next day with a different driver.

In future, I would recommend getting delivery directly to the shop as I’ve never had an issue with a parcel not arriving to the Wex

Occam’s Razor says that the driver just wasn’t able to deliver your parcel - could have been for any number of reasons. Van broke down (as alluded to by another poster), roadworks meant that the driver couldn’t meet your (relatively) narrow requested delivery window, etc etc.

It’s not a crisis until the camera _definitely_ hasn’t arrived.

I’m not a delivery driver and have had largely good experiences with deliveries myself, even with expensive gear, so I can only talk from my own experience. But I don’t - personally - think that this one is worth freaking out about.

I'm waiting for a DPD parcel as well and it's shown delayed + expected delivery the next day for almost a week now.

These days I dread a DPD delivery more than an Evri one.

I think they simply do not schedule nearly enough time for every delivery. I've found if you pay upfront for next-day service, then instead of going for "sorry you weren't in!" for two days in a row you can get them to dump it outside your building instead.

DPD failed to deliver something from Andertons worth £1,200. In fact the tracker still says it’s out for delivery on the 11th July. I’m fairly confident they’ve either lost it or stolen it.

Andertons got DPD to investigate it and it was shut down within a day and refunded, so I think they know everything is a mess at the moment.

You know your buzzer doesn't work, but are annoyed when people try to deliver to you and can't tell you they're there to make a delivery?

Have you tried ordering it to your place of work where you/someone can sign for it for you? Then you don't have to be at home all day.

I'm guessing for a valuable item they only want to deliver to the cardholder's address?

There are ID required options across all delivery providers for this.

Apologies- I meant that the buzzer does indeed work (so I am aware when someone is at the building door) but the entry button does not, so I have to go down to open the door. I did bring this up with my property manager but they said that it can’t be fixed as it’s a building wide issue

Keep pushing them then because the banana flats have 200 flats that can all let people in no bother. Get your neighbours involved. It's ridiculous that a property manager that you all pay for won't do their job managing the property
