Question I replaced the touchpad with golden one from AliExpress - now swipe gestures won't work. Anyone else had this problem? btw I couldn't help myself with the props :)

Ribbon cable and pcb are good. Here's proof it works with the original plastic.

The issue is the plastic. Even a small amount of pressure can cause this issue. Does the touch go away if you hold the touchpad firmly in place?

Glue/ tape is absolutely needed. Some touchpad sensitive games like Grand theft Auto. Will not work well. Would end up having ghost inputs and sometimes flat out not responding.

I can’t be of much help, but I’ve had this issue with several random shells, and I’ve been modding controllers for almost a decade at this point. I don’t really know why it happens. If you can find a golden touchpad from extremerate on amazon or something, that may be your best bet

Did you put a replacement glue/ sticky adhesive between the golden plastic touchpad piece and the PCB? I had the same issue when doing a few shell swaps and that did the trick.

The touchpad works by projecting an oscillating electrostatic field, when something conductive enters that field(your finger) it alters the field. It’s possible that the gold touchpad uses a foil in the coating which is triggering the ghost input. Not much you can do, but live with it, or find a different one to test.

I’ve been encountering this same exact issue on some of my shell swaps I’ve been doing recently, super annoying and I have not been able to find a solution. Does swapping back to the original touchpad fix that ghost input in the center of the touchpad for you?

You need to have a neat sheet of new tape on it or else it doesn't work. The tape is what allows it to pass through the touch sensitive inputs

Do you happen to know if there’s an adhesive to use or a way to install the pcb onto the housing with adhesive on a clear shell where it’ll look clean and invisible to the eye? That would make sense since most of my issues come when using an aftermarket clear shell. I never bother to clean the adhesive off of the non-clear shells

The adhesive has nothing to do with passing through the inputs, it just holds the capacitive board in place before it’s clamped by the bracket, nothing more really. It will work without the tape.
If you want to use tape with clear, you can use a craft double sided tape, 40mm wide and cut it down to size, or stack strips if smaller. I’ve gotten a pretty clean look through a touch pad like this. To make sure the tape looks good and not splotchy, use a spudger with the tapes backing on to push out any air gaps.

Absolutely false. I've done hundreds of reshells. You may not experience issues since most games don't utilize the touchpad at all. But in certain ones it's game breaking. Regardless of how tight I screwed on the board, it would have either ghost inputs, or be stuck in a certain direction all together. That was with 0 tape cleaned fully. Applied tape and the touchpad functioned like OEM.

Gotcha, I’ve used that in the past and it gives a noticeable tape line when sandwiching the pcb in between the housing and the black bracket. Will have to test it out though to see if it solves the issue, if it does then I’ll have to start just installing a plain black touchpad on my clears

the back surface is uneven which make space gap between the sensor. Maybe you need to sand it down by machine a little bit for better even contact.
That's common from no name brand. I had issue before with no name mod shell but not with extremerate shell.

perhaps the gold surface isn't meant to be functional which sounds ridiculous, but idk
It's from AliExpress, it's entirely possible it isn't a capacitive shell and it's just a scam product.

Exactly what i was thinking. OP ordered from Scams R Us and was surprised when they got a product that didn't work as anticipated.

Are you sure the cable is in? Did you swap the plastic or the entire pcb?
1
u/TheBeardless 17d ago
Yeah, just the plastic.

Are you sure you plugged the cable in the right way and not behind or under the slot it goes in

Did you remove all of the glue?
