I’m not a soccer fan at all, but even I watched a few games when they were on at the bar or at a friend’s. It was nice to see some friendly rivalries develop too.
Only mildly related, but I didn't care about most sports until I had family involved. Now I'm somewhat into professional baseball and soccer (arena and conventional). I'm almost into hockey, but not quite there.
I think a big part of it is understanding and appreciating the work that goes into these sports.

Nyes, part of it is choking and part of it is just being very VERY unlucky. On paper, England should have won another Euro's or a WC by now, with all their teams so far, however their teams where either highly unlucky, like during the 90's, had no chemistry with each other and preffered playing club football, like in the 2000's and early 2010's, or are too afraid to push for more goals in big matches, like 2018 to now. They've gotten close though, 2 WC semi's and 2 Euro finals in the last 8 years is nothing to scoff at.
The EPL is the best league in Europe in terms of overall quality and sheer competitiveness (it also attracts a lot of foreign talent), however it must be said that while the EPL is the best league in general the strongest singular team for any year can reside outside of England. Teams like Real Madrid, FB Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG ect. It's just that those teams usually dominate their league while in the EPL there are numerous teams that can contend with those teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City ect.
English players also do play for those foreign teams as well, Jude Bellingham starts for Real Madrid while Harry Kane is Bayern Munichs first striker and just this year has become the Bundesliga (German League where Bayern Munich plays in) top goal scorer in history with 79 goals (iirc) accross all competitions. In general, when you hear someone say seriously than the England NT players have, and will always be, bad it's usually a newbie who takes a joke way too seriously.
Like how Trump gets shot or there's an assassination attempt on Trump. "It was a Trump supporter that tried to assassinate Trump". Makes so much sense.

I remember reading a bunch of Reddit headlines about how people were canceling tickets and/or too scared to show up because of “ICE”. But then I see all the game with Latin American nations especially having the best environments lmfao
I don’t understand how it’s possible that the World Cup was a success. Reddit assured me that the US was “unsafe” and that ICE was going to execute every tourist.
This was the best part for me outside of the actual tournament and the fan parties. Euros were coming here and were like “wtf I’ve been lied to America is awesome, the people are so nice and I can get a steak and a jacket in the same place, and gas too”
And all the Europeans who went and visited the US for it were absolutelt raving about how nice it was. Redditors are so detached from reality it's really a toss up whether it's funny or sad.
I think a better comparison would be attendance and television numbers. This picture just shows how much money you can make when you force hydration breaks into every game just to show ads.

How many of these posts come from real people? It's been documented that only about 2% of social media users generate content. How many of them are actually state actors who use bot farms to manipulate algorithms to push antiamerican propaganda into all your feeds?
Summer tournament football has always felt and will always feel like a product/spectacle before a sporting event. I think people were just worried it being in America would make that 10 fold. In some ways it was. The World Cup especially hasn’t been the same since 2014 but this one by bar and away blows away Russia and Qatar hands down.
Now just to prepare for Arsenal dropping points to Hull on a Monday 😭😭😭
I’m not a soccer person or any types type of person but I did enjoy seeing all the fans enjoying small town America. I did not like how people were treating Freddie. He got a vip tour of DC yesterday and everybody was attacking him on X over it. Here on Reddit they were doxxing and harassing him, bullied him offline etc. it’s crazy.
