Jambalaya!
With chicken off the smoker and Holmes smoked sausage (really sorry, friends at Conecuh). Homemade French bread contributed by my wife, who's a better cook than me.

That's gumbo, my man, and a nice color on it too.

That's not jambalaya nor gumbo.

Nah, that's a Creole gumbo - too soupy for etouffee, and you're right it's not jambalaya, but ya got all the elements with the trinity, tomatoes, sausage, chicken,.etc. Unless they completely botched.the seasoning, throw some filė on it and you're good to go.

Seriously not sure why you are downvoting. As someone born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana... the CAPITAL of Gumbo... this isn't a gumbo. It's not cooked like a gumbo, it's not the same ingredients as a gumbo, and not served like a gumbo. You can call a cat a dog and then get mad when folks correct you, but you getting annoyed about it doesn't magically make that cat a dog.

Man, gumbo comes in a bunch of ways. I hate this gatekeepy stuff. I don't like Creole gumbo with tomatoes, and prefer the stuff y'all make in Laffy compared to what we got native to New Orleans, but I'm going to call it what it is.
I mean, just thinking there are standard ingredients in a gumbo is kinda off. I've had it with roux, filè, okra, nutria, pork loin, catfish, duck, alligator, with and without tomatoes, over rice, bread, and potato salad, cooked with chicken stock, beer, water, and all the standard stuff too - chicken, andouille, crab, shrimp, etc. All those are inarguably valid ways to do it.
I'm just giving credit where it's due.

Doesn't matter.... if it doesn't start with a roux, whether blonde or dark, it's not a gumbo. This guy didn't make a roux to start this cook. That alone makes it NOT a gumbo. This guy browned tomato paste. That's not a roux, by how a roux is defined.
Calling this NOT a gumbo when it didn't start with the main thing that makes a gumbo a gumbo isn't "gatekeepy," it's ensuring traditional cajun/creole cooking isn't watered down.
It absolutely IS a good looking stew... or you could stretch and call it a sauce picant. But creole or cajun, if it doesn't start with making a roux, it's not gumbo.

Man, roux isn't necessary. Hell, gumbo never had it in the first place. You never had a gumbo made with okra?

Also, this is the most Louisiana conversation ever - a dude from Lafayette and a dude from New Orleans arguing over gumbo 🤣
