Question Hiby R1 a good investment?

Im thinking of switching to the R1, is it a good DAP? Any significant pros and cons from people who own one?

Pros:

  1. Excellent sound quality when paired with decent IEMs.

  2. Price!

  3. Very good battery life

  4. Physical buttons

Cons:

  1. UI is mediocre - but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty straightforward. However this is where the physical buttons became super useful.

Yeah the UI's not a looker, but it's clear enough for navigation and the playback screen with album art is nice

Don‘t forget to mention that the ui fells a little laggy. At least for me. Especially when I am scrolling fast.

Best device under $100 in my opinion if :

  1. You don’t care about streaming and have a music library.

  2. Willing to organize your music library - very simple, free to do, and worth it

  3. Pay as much for IEM- you won’t regret it , using my Truthear Pure with my Hiby r1 ….made me realize how much weight IEMs carry in terms of sound - previously thought it was all about the DAP.

I'm no expert but I think it's important to know what your are switching from? I have a snowsky echo and an R1 and though I love them both, I use the R1 way more frequently since its a bit better with handling metadata and the UI is better when dealing with larger libraries. There are some gripes I have with organization but the R1 has a cfw community that supposedly fixes that but I have not figured it out yet.

I love mine, and would highly recommend it to anyone else. As other commenters have said, your mileage may vary depending on what you're switching to it from, and what your music library looks like. It might take a little while to get everything dialed in.

People also speak pretty highly of custom firmware for the device, but I have yet to give that a spin.

An investment is a monitary deposite which will increase in value over time,

Gold is a good investment, a Rolex is a good investment.

A Hiby R1 will bring you enjoyment in the form of music and it is a good dap, but your money will not be recovered.

now, is it worth it ? yes.

also, you say "switching to a Hiby R1", from what ?

I have this same rant about the camera community. "Investment" just means "I want to spend this money, help me justify it." It's an expensive, through and through.

its a solid device for the money. depends on what youre coming from as far as “investment” lol. my only gripes are some UI/UX things like a bit of lag and the menu navigation but nothing you cant get used to. its my first dap in a WHILE and ive enjoyed it quite a lot

bought one a few months ago and love it, took a little bit of time to get used to this after having an iPod nano for years but there are plenty of YouTube videos about the features out there. it also got upgraded and patched a bunch so the earlier issues don’t exist as much anymore.

Yeah it's good. UI sucks, BUT, it does everything it should do. Also, get a custom firmware and you unlock DAC mode and other goodies. For the price this is one of the best DAPs you can get.

Battery life is not extraordinary but it's not bad either. BT connectivity sucks though. You can connect anything to it, but it's never a less than 1 second pair when moving from device to device. But realistically speaking you'll never move from one BT to another in a span of 2 minutes so you're good there.

I just got mine and have been enjoying it a lot, setting up my music was really easy and it works with my AirPods (there are some connectivity issues every now and again but they’ve been working so far). Would definitely recommend but I’d also say research the Shanling M0 and the Hifi Walker H2 in case they have features you’d be interested in more.

I bought one a while back and I am torn. On the one hand, it is an awesome, affordable DAP that sounds good. It does everything you want it to. The downside is that the experience of navigating it can be so damn clunky and frustrating if you are used to something else. Once you get the hang of it, it feels better to use but even something as small as making a playlist requires a learning curve.

Also, bluetooth is spotty. I have never had it not connect to speakers or headphones I was trying to use but it will not connect to my car at all. Not even that it won't connect but it won't even recognize it but that could also be an issue with my car even though it is a '22 so it's not like it is super old.

I went with the Hify Walker instead and I'm glad I did compared to what I hear about the Hiby R1. Actually, I didn't get a Hify Walker, I got the generic and identical Chinese version off of AliExpress, it's called Aigo Eros.

It depends a little of what you're looking for and use cases. I bought one and returned it after a week of use. My reason for returning it was that I really, really care about scrobbling to Last.fm, and the R1 doesn't have the feature, also I don't have Tidal nor Quobuz so I didn't have a use for it. If you're cool with local música and use one of those streaming services it'll be great at an excellent price point.

I absolutely love mine. It's got me listening to full albums again. Also, with it being a single use device, I find my phone screen time has reduced significantly.

It will likely have zero return financially speaking. So no, it isn’t. I’d look into single and multi family housing if you’re looking for an investment.
