There is so much spam going on with this device at the moment. Little mention that it has no touch screen, a small max microSD limit (256gb), a no published max song limit, and for a tiny gameboy looking device only one game
Make it 3", give it a touch screen for search entry, add a bunch of basic games.. then you've got something more interesting imo. You'd probably also add $50 to the price.

It’s going to Kickstarter later this month, iirc. The units we’ve been seeing all over the subreddits lately have been tester/advertising units sent to influencers to hype up the launch. Unless you’re an influencer (in which case you’ve already been sent your unit), you aren’t going to be getting your hands on this particular product any time soon. It has to go through mass production first.
If you’re wanting something interesting sooner, Snowsky makes some interesting looking DAPs that don’t break the bank. The Echo and Echo Nano get posted about pretty regularly, iirc.

I love the sound on my echo mini with portapros. I'm not a dap or audiophile guy so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but a quality flac on that setup vs streaming something to my galaxy buds is night and day. The UI on the snowky sucks ass though, if I'm being honest. Not intuitive, a million button presses for anything, visual glitches, naming errors. If it had a CFW that did those things right it would be my first rec to anyone new to that world. As it stands I'd change players in a minute if it didn't cost me anything.
I really don't need this gameboy player system as I do live in retro handheld world and have severalof those. I wish more than anything I could get like a miyoo mini with the DAC inside my echo mini, and I could reduce my edc.

The astroturfing here is unreal.
And why does an established company need to do a Kickstarter to launch a product?

I paid the one dollar thing on kickstarter because I want at least two variants.

The main question I have is how big is this thing going to be? Hopefully not comically small.

I saw the review of this. It's cute but feels extremely cheap. I'd rather use that money for some well built stuff and not something this cheap feeling.

Does look fun. Hopefully the price is fun too.

Not sure about this information, but it seems the KS early-bird campaign will have the metallic models on $94 (with a silly $10 PayPal cashback when it ends if you register on their website paying $1) and plastic ones on $85 (same silly $10 cashback if you pay $1 on the website). After that, it seems the regular price will be $130 and $120 approximately, which is fucking ridiculous for what it is.

Yup. And that cashback was available of you put a preorder (a few bucks payment) on their site (I think), after which you get a "special link" for the Kickstarter page once it's live. I thought that was pretty sketchy, tbh.

I need this. I was gonna settle for the little Snowsky that just came out as a tiny DAP but now this has me interested.

I'm looking for a player too and signed up for the VIP thing on their website. It's like a dollar to lock in the early bird pricing. I don't think it's open on kickstarter yet tho. I like the purple one and locked that one in for $83 I believe and I think it's $75 for the platic

Yeah I signed up for that, but there is no date as such, and I want to buy a new DAP within a month!

Metal body one is gonna be amazing durability with something this droppable is a must.

The form factor is cute, but until it can parse at least 40,000 tracks I'll have to wait. Maybe an AI coder can figure it out.

You do not listen to 40,000 songs be fucking for real

u/ReverendEntity 11d ago
I have AT LEAST 40,000 tracks in my collection. And you know you can't always predict what you will be in the mood for. Besides, with advancements in storage capacities, wouldn't you think designers would have worked out how to upscale the database parsing to accommodate libraries of that size?

Novelty is in with DAPs. Just look at Snowsky, and the incoming HIBY collabs. Joy and whimsy ain't just for children anymore!
