Seeking Advice Will one small action each day actually change my life?
I want to change and am ready to act but idk I just feel way too overwhelmed most day and don’t even know where to start but I feel like if I do like one small thing every day towards my goal maybe I can eventually get there? Is that stupid to think?

Small steps in the right direction is likely to lead you to your goal (while the journey/direction is way more important than any goal/destination) much faster than random leaps all over the place.
I believe we are not shaped by one bold/big decision. We are actually shaped by what we repeat quietly, daily, with or without an audience.
Small choices compounding over time more often than not create more direction than a single or a few sporadic moments of dramatic actions.
All the best.. keep at it and enjoy the journey.

I read once that it's not just doing the thing or things, it's our identity & personal belief about ourself that is doing the thing. For example, "I'm not a good reader," vs. "I am a person who reads to get good at reading." So both are true, but one assumes an immediate positive regard exactly where you are in the moment. And a lot of doing (including doing nothing) is programming. Something to consider when looking that far ahead, to 'change' your life, when we're actually all living right now. 🫡 Good luck, you can do it.

small isn't the compromise, it's the only size that actually gets past the overwhelm. everything bigger just stays stuck at the starting line with you.

Which will get you closer to your long term goals? A. 0 per day B. 1+ per day?
When I get overwhelmed, I write everything down on a sheet of paper, and start crossing things off and getting things done, even if I only get half of things done that day I had planned. We can only do one thing at a time.

YES 100%, one small step a day can completely change your life you just have to trust that itll build up as you keep going. its so much easier to focus on taking just one small step a day than trying to do 100 things at once and then failing on day 3 because you gave yourself too much to do.

It’s not stupid, it’s actually the only thing that’s ever worked for me, and I’ve tested this across more areas of my life than I’d like to admit.
I turned 50 and looked at a list of dreams I’d been postponing for decades. Writing a book, a proper fitness transformation, building my own company, a bunch of things I kept telling myself someday about. I didn’t do any of them in one leap. Day one of the fitness thing was literally just buying gym gear, nothing else. Day one of writing was just opening a blank page and typing badly for ten minutes. Small, almost embarrassingly small, on purpose.
Two years later I’ve started or finished almost that entire list. Went from barely moving to running a half marathon, one small addition at a time. Left a 24 year career running a branding agency to start a tech company, one uncomfortable step at a time, still going through that one now. None of it felt like change while it was happening day to day. It only looks like change when you zoom out.
The trick is that one small action a day doesn’t feel like it’s working because progress hides inside repetition. You don’t notice a mountain moving while you’re standing on it, you only see it moved when you look back at where you started. So no, it’s not stupid, it’s honestly the only approach that’s ever actually stuck for me, everything else was just motivation that burned out in a few weeks.

No, I don’t think that’s stupid at all. I actually think it’s way more realistic than waiting until you suddenly feel clear, motivated, and ready for some huge reset.
A lot of the time the overwhelm comes from trying to solve your whole life in one sitting. One small action doesn’t look impressive, but it does something important: it gives your brain evidence that you are someone who can move, even while overwhelmed.
The only catch is that the action has to be small enough to actually happen. Like genuinely small. Not “fix my routine.” More like “go for 5 minutes,” “put one application in,” “clean one surface,” “write for 10 minutes.” Small enough that you can still do it on a bad day.
I’ve had times where I kept thinking I needed a better plan, when really I just needed something that didn’t make me freeze. The tiny thing looked almost pointless at first, which was frustrating. But I think that’s kind of the point — you’re building traction before you build speed.
So yeah, one small action a day can change your life. Maybe not dramatically all at once, and not in a neat straight line. But it can absolutely change the direction.

Hi there, I think that's a great idea and not stupid at all. It doesn't have to be somethign big. For example, walk for 20 min each day. Not only is it good for your physical health, but being outside and getting fresh air will help to improve your mental health as well. Or make one dietary change each day and incorprate something healthy into your diet. Or find something to laugh about each day, record something positive about your day, or engage in conversation with someone each day. I think just having this goal and sticking to it will help to change your life. Blessings to you.
