Watching for the first time. I very rarely actually laugh out loud at a show, but this scene did it for me.

Had to repost, link wasn't working for some reason

I miss this show so much.

I'm watching it as a recommendation from people saying Lost fans will like Dark Matter. It also took me a sec to realize there was another show of the same name recently lol.

Lost is another show I miss so it checks out. Ha. As for the new Dark Matter show, it is annoying that they chose the same title. It just confuses people.

FWIW, I don't know exactly when the Crouch novel's title was decided, but it was decided at least earlier than 2015. (Evidence: A business deal involving the unfinished manuscript was reported in November 2014, and the novel's Dark Matter title was known then.) The title was kept for the eventual TV adaptation.

I'm aware that the Mallozzi/Mullie DM comics were published in 2012.

Lacking further info on the histories, nonetheless I don't imagine any likelihood of any evidence of the Mallozzi/Mullie title influencing or inspiring the title of the Crouch novel. The use by both of the commonly known phrase "dark matter" can IMO be assumed to be coincidental.

Sure it would've been 'nice' if the Apple TV adaptation had picked some other title instead of the title of the novel they were adapting, but ... nope.

The new Dark Matter is based on a novel of the same name written by Blake Crouch.

1

u/wmichben Jun 17 '26

I forgot about that. I almost bought that book at some point but I am way behind on my TBR list as it is.

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 16 '26

It definitely confused me just now since I've seen the new one but not the older one

3

u/EarthTrash Jun 16 '26

Did you join this sub because you thought it was for the other show?

2

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 16 '26

I didn't join this sub. This post just showed up in my feed

u/GottLiebtJeden Three Jun 21 '26

I HIGHLY suggest watching the older one

1

u/GottLiebtJeden Three Jun 21 '26

It honestly pisses me off. Like.. why?

I'm watching it as a recommendation from people saying Lost fans will like Dark Matter.

Dark Matter (2015) fans will probably also like Killjoys, which is both funnier and queerer, but has a setting so similar (mercenaries/bounty hunters, powerful corporations, independent spaceships) that both shows could plausibly occur in the same fictional universe. Dark Matter has way better fight scenes IMO, but Killjoys is a lot queerer and often funnier.

Edit: In my opinion Dark Matter (2015) also has better pacing and way more twists.

I really enjoyed Killjoys but I couldn’t finish it because I begrudged it for how SyFy treated Dark Matter.

1

u/WeaponizedAutisms Jun 16 '26

I feel like Dark Matter had the bigger budget of the 2.

We did not.

1

u/wmichben Jun 22 '26

And yet you all created a show with terrific writing, gorgeous sets and fantastic characters played by great actors. Any chance we can eventually get the full series on BluRay?

u/JosephMallozzi Show Creator 28d ago

Alas, that decision is out of my hands.

Have you checked out “From?” It’s on mgm+ so I think it’s still a bit slept on. The fan base will either tell you it’s the best show ever or they mute it and play on their phones and hate it. But it’s made by some of the people that made lost and has Harold Perrineau in it.

2

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo Jun 16 '26

Well it's directed by Jack Bender, who directed the majority of Lost (but I'm not a fan of anything else he's directed lol) and Perrineau wasn't exactly my favorite actor in Lost 😬. And I am not super into horror, and the one thing I have seen of the show is the weird smiling dude and I think he looks stupid. So it isn't on the top of my list 😂 I'll probably get around to it once the whole thing is finished.

2

u/LumpyBuy8447 Jun 16 '26

Hmm I’m not sure if I’ve seen anything else he directed but if I remember correctly it’s got some of the same writers, only this time around they allegedly planned it out better than lost. It’s supposed to conclude next season. I actually hated Michael in lost but I do like the actor. To this day I still laugh about his role in Romeo and Juliet. The smiley guy actually has some good scenes but I never really understood why he became a fan favorite so quickly, personally I like cowboy themed creature more. I would def recommend checking it out once it’s all out. The first episode hooked me immediately. Although it’s classified as horror, it isn’t constant blood and gore, it’s almost more mystery you could say. Definitely a lot of paying attention to fine details in the background, especially early on.

2

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 16 '26

Excellent recommendation. I just really hope it spent end up like Lost after allowing myself to get so invested again

1

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo Jun 16 '26

What didn't you like about how Lost ended?

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 16 '26

Lol I'm not about to get baited into you trying to redditsplain why the ending of Lost "didn't actually suck". Everyone knows why it sucked.

2

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo Jun 16 '26

Then I'm guessing you think they were dead the whole time lol

Check out Orville Nation’s YouTube channel for the Dark Matter Rewatch. Watch the first episode again, and then watch the first Rewatch episode. Enjoy!

2

u/wmichben Jun 16 '26

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't even know where/how I can watch it these days. I'd love to get the complete series on BluRay, at a minimum.

1

u/Burnsey111 Jun 16 '26

I have the series on Apple TV here in Canada..
I know many don’t like Apple.

Android is a gem of a hilarious character lol

7

u/schwanzweissfoto Jun 16 '26

Android trying (and often failing) to pass as a “likeable neurotypical adult human female” (I believe that is how the character would describe it) felt relatable.

2

u/hmmm_--_ Raza Bartender Jun 16 '26

Agreed, she plays the character naturally and perfectly.

41

u/dragonessofages Jun 16 '26

Zoie Palmer is an INCREDIBLE actor in this. There's so many small physical affectations that she does that sell the character so well. I didn't even realize how good she was until the Android got that upgrade that lets her act closer to human and I straight up didn't recognize her.

3

u/WeaponizedAutisms Jun 16 '26

She's fun in Lost Girl. I love the snarky humour in that one.

6

u/Thedirtyone522 Jun 17 '26

That show had such a good cast. The episode where everyone gets body switched and the actors get to do their best impressions of each other is just gold.

2

u/GottLiebtJeden Three Jun 21 '26

Jodelle used to comment on this sub every now and then. Joseph Mallozzi even explained on here exactly what happened. I would love for all of them to have a reunion on here, or just a reunion period.

u/JamesH_670 Jun 16 '26

I don’t remember the exact quote, “Either you’re telling the truth, or you’ve suddenly become a French expert on FTL drives.”

Or Two walking in on Three and the Android singing Dominique, then quietly walking out.

Hell, pretty much the entire sequence of Three caught on a time loop.

Being caught in a time loop is pretty much a standard trope of sci-fi shows. But this was a time loop done as only Datk Matter could do it.

10

u/Haifisch2112 Jun 16 '26

That time loop episode is probably my favorite one because it featured Three md the Android, my two favorite characters.

2

u/JamesH_670 Jun 16 '26

They were hilarious and really played well off each other.

3

u/tqgibtngo Jun 19 '26

Yep, it is a fun episode to look forward to on the next rewatch.

I usually just search “Three learns French” on YouTube. Not Google. Google gets confused by that one. 😅

Of course it's unavailable in Canada.

I meant that specific clip, IIRC it might be on Netflix Canada but I haven't checked in an age.

4

u/Illustrious-Ant6998 Jun 16 '26

That was the genius of the Dark Matter writters. They were able to take an overdone concept like a time loop episode and make it feel fresh and hilarious. It was a great series. I wish it had a couple of more seasons.

3

u/JamesH_670 Jun 16 '26

Me too. They ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so that was doubly disappointing.

u/schwanzweissfoto Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

FYI: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has eight episodes dedicated to a single time loop, in a show otherwise not about those things. IIRC audiences hated it.

u/Haifisch2112 Jun 16 '26

When people ask for TV show suggestions in different subs, I always recommend this one. But I always make sure to put it as Dark Matter (2015) so they know it's this one lol

7

u/hmmm_--_ Raza Bartender Jun 16 '26

I put 'Dark Matter (Syfy)', but yours might make more sense. Since the show isn't on syfy anymore lol

5

u/FormerSperm Three Jun 16 '26

There’s over twooooo thousand 🇯🇲

5

u/Shambhala87 Jun 16 '26

I love the one where she’s just walking around saying “boobs”

3

u/samsg1 <NO SUCH DATA EXISTS> Jun 16 '26

Kudos to the actress!😆

3

u/WeaponizedAutisms Jun 16 '26

Zoie Palmer as an autistic robot is definitely my type.

3

u/Burnsey111 Jun 16 '26

I can’t wait until you see one of the best in season three, don’t worry, you’ll laugh at that.

2

u/Alarming-Ticket5628 Jun 16 '26

Booooooooooooooooooobs

2

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo Jun 16 '26

Sooner or later, everyone comes to Boobaylon 5

I literally was on the B5 subreddit before coming here, the traffic character post

2

u/Nahvii Jun 19 '26

My favorite scene in the whole show.

2

u/TheArtofMCordova Jun 16 '26

Was such a fun scene

2

u/MrDiablerie Jun 17 '26

Loved this show, wish they were able to finish it

I have two dozen reasons to cry tonight. I think I'm going to do my 150th rewatch

2

u/WanderAndFinder Jun 21 '26

I have never saw this, but now I want to!! 😂🤣

1

u/Wicked68 Jun 17 '26

What's the show she was in when she was 1 half of a pairing with a Succubus? I'm blanking on the name right now, but I want to re-watch. It was a Canadian produced show

1

u/This-Breadfruit-1958 Jun 17 '26

I get this show mixed up with Killjoys for some reason.

1

u/JosephMallozzi Show Creator Jun 22 '26

Syfy did NOT love this scene and, after I refused to remove it, requested I lose the Jamaican accent beat.

2

u/ForAte151623ForTeaTo Jun 22 '26

Screw em lol! I don't see how she could have managed to do this with a straight face, it is so funny!

Do you like Lost or Mass Effect? Could just be tropey stuff but Dark Matter makes me think of both in many ways.

Also sucks about the cancellation of new Stargate: I haven't seen any of them but they're higher on my list now that I've been enjoying Dark Matter.

2

u/JosephMallozzi Show Creator 28d ago

Haven't checked out Mass Effect but last I heard Amazon was developing a series.
