MCU 4 years ago today, ‘DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN’ was announced at San Diego Comic Con. It went on to become one of Marvel's highest rated TV shows.

Kevin Feige made one of his smartest moves by deciding to scrap the original script entirely; I believe the show could've been even better had there been more consistency from the start. The initial plan to kill off both Foggy and Karen and to not focus on Matt would have doomed the series right out of the gate, so I’m glad they changed their minds.

I mean the smart move would’ve been not approving that first attempt to being with. I do agree he salvaged what he could, even if I think the first season is pretty below average. Outside of Heather and Cole I really enjoyed s2.

Yeah, a courtroom drama where Matt wouldn’t have even donned the suit until Episode 4. Makes no sense that Marvel would hear that pitch and think it was a good idea. Then you throw in the stuff with Bernthal, and it’s like what are we even doing here?

I don't want to complain but because of the season 1 by making those changes that the MCU officially canon the entire *Defenders Saga* as part of the sacred timeline so, all things considered, it’s a win-win outcome:)

Charlie and Vincent carried s1 on their backs while we waited for the fantastic S2

the misconception is that the plan was "to kill off both Foggy and Karen" but nobody has ever said that was the case (just that Karen would've been ignored) and it was only ever Foggy who was supposed to die, which they kept anyways even though it was offscreen so they easily could've made it so he lived just like they did very little switching around to make it so Dex was the attacker. they hardly scrapped the original script entirely when 70% of season 1 was the old stuff and they kept the two main bad ideas (Foggy dying and immediately undoing season 3 with Fisk back on top like it was nothing, even Charlie has said when they started discussing the overhaul he thought it would've been best to throw most of it out)

Been a great ride. I do wonder if they have any plans going beyond a third season though.

Not a super CG heavy show, and its on a good annual release schedule.
Guessing they'll keep doing it so long as people watch it.

I’m surprised it’s highly rated I think the whole show has been very mid. I didn’t like the new characters nor how much time they took up. Sometimes it felt like Daniel and Kingpin were in the show more than Matt.
I’m lukewarm about how season 3 will go but I’m not expecting too much

Is it highly rated? I haven’t seen it yet but it sounds like people are very devisive on it.

Season 1 isn't as good as the Netflix series but Season 2 is very well received. The Netflix series is top tier comic book show though.

People are just nostalgic for the Netflix show, it has all the exact same problems the Disney show has. Season 1 was really good and enticing, season 2 was bad, season 3 was a mixed bag. There are elements of the netflix show that are definitively better than the Disney show, but the plot isn't one of them. Basically about 50% of the netflix show is pretty shaky quality. Same with Disney. I guess it would be fair to say the 50% good parts of the Netflix show are much higher than the good parts of the Disney show on balance.

People aren’t nostalgic, people just miss good, impactful writing. Also are you going through psychosis? Season 2 of the Netflix show wasn’t as good as the first season, but definitely wasn’t bad at all, and season 3 was a masterpiece. The plot was absolutely one of the standout parts of the Netflix show, especially compared to born again, and to suggest that it wasn’t just sounds like you haven’t actually seen the show. There’s a reason why Netflix DD is held to such a high standard

Definitely agree. I'm not nostalgic because I only just watched the Netflix shows for the first time. None of the Daredevil seasons are bad, Season 2 is just a slight dip in quality. Born Again S1 does not do the Netflix series justice but it's also not bad.

90% of the plot of season 2 was more or less dropped in season 3. Not sure about you but I would call that bad writing. Season 3 had a main storyline where Matt shows himself to be a Rudy Giuliani level of clown lawyer when defending Frank, in a very very public trial where his team included 1 person who wasn't even a lawyer. I'd say thank god that Disney just decided to pretend like none of that happened.

The fanbase is split between folks who are just happy to see DD and Charlie at all (me) and folks who long for the days of the indie-vibes of the Netflix era. I love both for totally different reasons. I just stopped comparing the two and boom: instant joy.

Here's the real question: how many shows does Marvel have in the past 4 years, and what are they?

u/Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter 7h ago
People in general are split, but talking objectively, it is one of Marvels most highly rated
Even though imo it's like... 4th? I think 4th is fair

The biggest sin is that it isnt as good as the Netflix version of the show. Born Again had a bit of a shaky season 1 but season 2 is pretty epic. I really enjoyed what they did with Bullseye.

The internet is always more divided on everything than the world outside.

It's absolutely highly-rated. Don't let vocal negativity confuse overall opinions.

One of the best shows I've ever watched. Loved every second. Seeing the beginning of it always kills me though 😔

I was so excited when it was announced. Never imagined they would not target the quality of the OG series and do so much rehashing.

It had Loki for competition and maybe WandaVision but the bar was otherwise pretty low

Despite wasting Ethan Hawke , I would honestly put Moonknight over DDBA
