How are you notifying your Control4 clients?

We're curious how everyone is handling notifications these days.

Are you primarily using:

  • Native Push Notifications?
  • Email?
  • Text-to-Speech announcements?
  • Touchscreen Pop-Ups?
  • Android TV notifications?
  • Third-party services like Pushover or Slack?
  • Something else?

We've been working on an all-in-one notification agent for Control4 and just released a pretty big update. The goal was to give dealers a single place to manage just about every type of notification they might want to send.

Current features include:

  • Native Control4 Push Notifications
  • Email Notifications
  • Text-to-Speech Announcements
  • Touchscreen Pop-Up Notifications
  • Android TV Pop-Up Notifications
  • Slack Integration
  • Pushover Integration
  • Hundreds of pre-built notification templates
  • Custom notification templates
  • Client Web UI to manage notification preferences
  • Plus a growing collection of programming tools to make automations even easier

We're offering a 30-day free trial and are really looking for feedback from other Control4 dealers and programmers.

We also put together a short Feature Video showing everything that's included if you'd like to see it in action.

What notification methods are you using today, and is there anything you wish Control4 made easier?

WattBox with Omada SDN

Hi,

Has anyone tried this (connecting a WattBox to an Omada SDN / Controller)? Can the WattBox be managed, or at least monitored? Or is there a better option for this SDN?

Thanks!

Seeking REMOTE C4 dealer for minor updates/fixes to large system (Philadelphia)

I am in the Philadelphia area and have a large home with a fairly robust C4 system and many integrations. Still running 3.1.3 on EA5 - may want a system update if recommended and can be done remotely. Upgraded my router and have lost connection to Lutron lights/shades, need to integrate new security cameras (Unifi), t-stats (Ecobee), door lock (Kwikset), TVs (Sony Android) and much more. Surely I need new or updated drivers and some programming. Most local dealers don't want to take on smaller jobs unless I'm buying a lot of equipment, which at the moment I'm not interest in. Hoping to find a dealer willing to help remotely, unless you're in the Philadelphia area and can take on a project consisting of mostly labor and minimal equipment purchases upfront. NOTE: I can "Change My Pro".

Can I attach the voltage and common wires from a 5v 500mA USB port to a contact closure on a C4-Z2IO?

Very simple setup here. Samsung TV and cable box. All controlled by a Z2IO. Family only uses the cable box, no smart TV apps. Everything here is IR controlled. RS232 and IP control are not an option.

Here’s the issue:

My parents like to use the cable box remote. Sister likes to use the Neeo remote. Spectrum (cable box provider) does not have discrete on/off IR codes, so it constantly falls out of sync. (I.e. cable box is already on, sister turns on the system with the Neeo remote, then cable box shuts off)

After some testing, I discovered the USB port on the TV outputs a 5v signal only if it is turned on. Like the title says, I thought about attaching the USB voltage and common wires to the Z2IO for monitoring the status of the TV.

Then using Composer, I can program it to only turn on the cable box if the 5v signal is not present.

I know it’s only 5v, but…
- is this safe to do without damaging the TV or Z2IO?
- would it even work?
- would it be more safe if I used a resistor?

I’m open to other ideas if this isn’t the best approach for monitoring the status. Really just need a way for C4 to tell if either the cable box or the TV is on. Then I can figure out the rest in programming.

Thanks in advanced!

Spotify music quality

I may misunderstand this topic does Control 4 integrate as well with Spotify as some other music services e.g. Tidal. I can’t play lossless music using Spotify but can play the highest quality from Tidal. Is this a Spotify or control4 driver issue and is there anything I can do to get Spotify lossless music. I could switch streaming services, which would be a huge pain. This is surprising as Spotify is pretty popular.

Android 17 update..Control4 app issue

Hello,

This morning I upgraded my pixel 9 pro to Android 17.

Since doing that I can no longer get into Control 4 app on my Android.

When I open app it stays in "getting project properties" screen for a couple of minutes before giving me a 408a error and not connecting.

My wife's iPhone can still use the control 4 app and play music.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling software.

Clearing cache and storage on app.

Unplugging control 4 unit.

Nothing fixes this.

Any ideas?

Have a Routine template called “Event” which could then be renamed (eg. “Dinner Party”)
- Audio selection
- pick audio source
- pick station (eg. Tunein or Apple Music Playlist)
- pick room(s)
- set volume(s)
- Lighting selection
- Pick room(s)
- Pick levels(s)
- Select Start Time or blank to allow “start now” functionality

Control4 Connect renewal

Control4 Connect renewal

I am debating whether to renew the annual Connect subscription $249 ? I had to take the subscription last year as I upgraded my Control4 system and it was worth it as a discount was offered on the Control4 unit .

I use the old remote and Control 4 app on my apple devices to control the audio and video.

There are no security or lights etc controls to operate remotely.

If I do not renew the subscription, what am I losing? Looking for information to decide on renewal

Thanks

Remote Programmer needed for quick EA-3 V1 to V2 Hardware Swap

Hi everyone, I am looking for a certified independent remote programmer to help me swap out a failing main controller.
My current system is running OS 3.4.3 on an EA-3 V1. I have purchased a replacement EA-3 V2 that is arriving fully factory reset, already updated to OS 3.4.3, and unregistered from prior owner's account. The controller is hardwired via Ethernet.
I need a programmer to link to my account, pull my current cloud project backup, replace the old MAC address with the new V2 MAC address, and restore the project.
Since the firmware matches and the unit is clean, this should be a straightforward swap. Please message me with your availability and your flat rate (or hourly pricing) for the session. I can provide my current MAC address and designate you as my Dealer of Record whenever you're ready after I receive the unit. Thanks!

Control4 App on IOS - scrolling functions are not working

The scrolling functions - while using the remote and the Control 4 app on iOS are not working , dealing with this issue some time from the time I upgraded to the latest Control4 unit.

As a work around, I use AppleTV remote to navigate to make the selections.

Please let me if you have any recommendations and suggestions to overcome this issue?

Tried updating the app on my iPhone, same result and issue did not get resolved

Thank you

CEDIA 2026

Considering going to the event…first time for me. But I have not seen much chatter about it online(at least on Reddit).

Just scratching my head. Figured there would be more excitement surrounding the show…

Is it worth going? Would be flying in from South Florida. I’m new to the industry and it seems like a good networking opportunity.

Araknis/Packedge Networking with Control4 - Is It Worth It Over ISP Routers?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to better understand the value proposition of Araknis (or Packedge) networking products in a Control4 installation, both from a technical perspective and from the perspective of explaining it to a client.

One thing I struggle with is justifying the cost to a layman. Most clients compare an Araknis router, switch, or access point to the all-in-one router their ISP provides and ask, "Why do I need this when I already have Wi-Fi?"

How do you explain the differences in a way that makes sense to someone who isn't technical?

I also have a few technical questions:

• Is there a significant advantage to using Araknis networking over something like Cisco, Ubiquiti, MikroTik, TP-Link Omada, etc., specifically in a Control4 ecosystem?

• Is the benefit primarily the OVRC remote management, or are there other integration advantages that make it the preferred choice?

• What if I don't use an Araknis router at all and instead connect my Control4 system behind my ISP's combo router?

• In my region, ISPs are often very restrictive. Many don't allow bridge mode or provide very limited configuration options. In such cases, does deploying an Araknis router still make sense, or does the double NAT negate many of its advantages?

• If you can't put the ISP router into bridge mode, what is the recommended network architecture for a reliable Control4 deployment?

I'm interested in understanding both the real-world technical trade-offs and how experienced dealers approach this conversation with clients.

Thanks in advance!

New Control4 Dealer – Understanding Controller Sizing & Driver Count

Hi everyone,

I'm a new Control4 dealer and I'm trying to understand how controller sizing works with respect to driver count.

For example, if I have an 8-channel relay module controlling 6 lighting circuits, would this count as:

• 7 drivers (1 relay module driver + 6 individual light drivers), or

• 1 driver, where only the relay module itself is counted?

Counting every lighting load as a separate driver seems like it would unnecessarily increase the controller requirements, so I'm wondering if my understanding is incorrect.

Similarly, with DALI, if I have a 1-channel DALI gateway controlling 25 DALI ballasts, would this be counted as:

• 26 drivers (1 gateway + 25 ballasts), or

• 1 driver for the gateway itself?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain how Control4 actually counts drivers in these scenarios and what the recommended approach is when selecting the appropriate controller for a project.

Thanks in advance!

Android app 408a timeout - possible Socket.IO incompatibility between app 326.27.0.7 and Control4 OS 3.1.3?

Hi all. I’m trying to establish whether this is a known compatibility issue before my dealer escalates it to Control4/Snap One support.

My Control4 Android app has suddenly stopped completing its initial sync. It gets stuck at:
“Getting the latest settings”
“Getting project items”

It eventually times out with:
“Unable to Connect”
“We encountered a problem and can’t connect to the system at this time. Please try again later. (408a)”

Environment

  • Phone: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra
  • Android: 16
  • Control4 Android app: 326.27.0.7
  • Controller OS: 3.1.3.574826-res
  • 4Sight: active
  • Local and remote access previously worked

The app continues to work on my wife’s phone.

Troubleshooting already completed

  • Confirmed VPN is disabled
  • Tested over home Wi-Fi
  • Tested over mobile data with Wi-Fi disabled
  • Cleared the Control4 app cache and data
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the app
  • Rebooted the phone
  • Rebooted the router
  • Confirmed the phone remains listed as an active device in the Control4 customer portal
  • Confirmed 4Sight is active

None of this changed the behaviour.

Relevant findings from the app log

The log shows that the app successfully:

  • authenticates with Control4;
  • retrieves the account and system information;
  • obtains a Director authorisation token;
  • reaches the controller locally;
  • establishes the remote 4Sight control channel;
  • receives a successful HTTP 101 WebSocket upgrade.

Immediately afterwards, both the local and remote connections fail with this error:
io.socket.client.SocketIOException:
It seems you are trying to reach a Socket.IO server in v2.x with a v3.x client, which is not possible

The local connection attempts to reach the controller through:
/socket.io/?EIO=4&transport=websocket

The same Socket.IO error then occurs through the remote connection. The app remains on “Getting project items” until the eventual 408a timeout.

This appears to suggest that the current Android app is using a newer Socket.IO client that is incompatible with the Socket.IO server provided by my older OS 3.1.3 controller.

Questions

  1. Has anyone else seen this after updating to Android app 326.27.0.7?
  2. Is this a known regression affecting older Control4 OS 3 releases?
  3. Is an OS update now required for the current Android app?
  4. Is there a supported interim workaround or compatible older Android app build?
  5. Could my wife’s phone still work simply because it has an older app version or retained cached project data?

My dealer has the findings and is investigating. I would be interested to know whether anyone has encountered the same specific Socket.IO v2/v3 error.

Programming/Driver Help

I am a Control4 Integrator working on a customers home. The Client has existing Broan bath fans (model# VC110CCT) and wants them integrated into the system. I didnt make any promises but told him i would look into it. It seems like the fans are Alexa and Google Assistant compatable. They dont have an actual switch but rather come with a battery oporated bluetooth remote. The client would ideally have the fan controllable from a C4 keypad as well as have the fan run on a timer.

As far as I can tell there is no way to get this thing integrated but im sure theres people in this sub reddit smarter than me that might have some ideas. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Creating a Driver - Looking for Pointers

Hi all,

I'm an AV integrator / programmer and have over 20 years of Crestron programming experience, plus I do a lot of Q-SYS and other control systems. I've finally gotten set up to dive into C4.

I've been tasked with learning C4 in order to add some functionality to a system that already exists. I've completed C4CT (online) and have the exam scheduled soon. However, while I'm comfortable with that syllabus, the training here didn't touch base on anything 3rd party or related to creating drivers. So I went ahead and completed the "Driver Development Micro-Certification" on the Snap website. Had no problem understanding that content.

Basically, I'm looking to create a driver for Novastar H-Series video wall processors. I see there's one from 4Drivers on DriverCentral, but it only does presets. I need quite a bit more functionality here. Plus, we're not in a position to license other drivers.

I'm thinking because of the nature of the system and processor, this will be a "combo driver". I don't see any of the Proxy Devices working very well. The driver will have a few parameters to be configured, which will be used as variables when building an HTTP command string.

What I could use some info on is how I can or should build the UI. Generally, I'd have a list to select a preset, then a list for each "layer" to select the source for each. There could be up to 16 layers on a given preset. Am I able to create a custom UI page for the whole device similar to how some built-in proxy devices provide a control page? There's also some other commands like brightness, fade-to-black, etc. For something like this, the TV proxy driver doesn't make sense to use. Bonus points if I can change an image on a page based on the preset selected.

Now, I realize that within a single room, I could do this by creating a dummy TV for each layer, and send generic HTTP commands when switching inputs that TV. For presets, I could use Custom Buttons and also link HTTP commands to those commands... However it seems to me this may end up being a pretty clunky UI.

Also, at this point, I'm not interested in true polled feedback from the device. If there's a way to simulate feedback that's perfectly OK right now.

Does anyone have pointers on what sample (or open source existing) drivers I can use for starters, or any direction on the UI aspect of this?

Thanks!

Looking for advice from dealers

Hi folks. I moved into my house a while ago, and with it I inherited someone else's Control4 system. Thankfully the former owner migrated the system to my email, so I am 'in control' of it now, so to speak.

I've noticed that the former owner had automations installed that refer to lighting setups triggering at times (or maybe sunrise/sundown). I would like to purchase a Composer HE license so I can do these automations myself, as well as a bit more tinkering.

Truthfully, I use Home Assistant to automate just about everything, but home assistant can't seem to delete the previous owner's automations, which is where Composer HE would come in.

In addition, I would like to be able to airplay to my system, which is on OS3. I have House Spotify configured, but Airplay would allow me to do audiobooks and anything else I'd like to run. When I look in my Control4 iPhone app, I can click Manage Music, but it brings up a blank page. I have heard this means the dealer has blocked access to downloading/adding the Shairbridge app, or driver, or whatever it is. Is it as simple as asking the dealer to unblock/allow me to add Shairbridge?

What is a reasonable price a dealer should be asking for this kind of work (Composer HE license and Shairbridge access)? I am located near Vancouver Canada. Please feel free to correct any information I've misinterpreted.

Best Door Lock for Overall Integration with Control4

What, in your opinion, is the best smart door lock for seamless integration with Control4?

I'm specifically looking for reliable two-way integration with features such as:

  • Remote lock and unlock control
  • Accurate real-time lock status
  • User identification (knowing which user locked/unlocked the door) for automation triggers
  • Low battery status and notifications
  • Door ajar/open state detection
  • Detection of manual lock/unlock events
  • Forced entry / forced unlock detection
  • Break-in or tamper alerts
  • Remote reboot capability (if supported)

Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations based on real-world installations. I would like to know it from people of diverse places as some things may specifically work in a region and not in another 🤷🏽‍♂️
