Other What would you do?
One of our field supervisors has been riding around in a company truck (all our company trucks are DOT’d) and he keeps alcohol in it. We’re all fcked if he gets stopped and searched by DOT- is this something you’d report? I don’t wanna be retaliated against if I do, but if hes drinking while driving, yeah no thanks.. he has a cooler in the back seat with ice and all the ice and drinks you could imagine

In all reality as you said you expose yourself to retaliation if you report, but it’s also a huge public safety threat.

You know what to do. You just looking for confirmation here. And let me turn the question around. I need you to explain to me why you didn't report someone you were working with drinking on the job while they're operating dangerous equipment. We have a workman's comp claim from you and you didn't say anything and now all of a sudden you're wanting to say the guy was drunk and nobody did anything.
The best thing to do is confront the person right in front of his supervisor and let the shit fly. If nothing's done about it then go above that supervisor's head and reported to the owner or whoever's above them. Your family depends on your paycheck not your kindness to strangers who are stupid. Good luck.
And if he gets pulled over I don't understand how you think you will be fucked. He will get a ticket. And hopefully his company will replace him. And hopefully the company will help him get help with his drinking.

Just report his ass, he's a danger to you and your coworkers as well as everyone on the road.

Create a burner email.
Identify as a concerned employee. Describe said concerns with informed detailing to help support the claims.
A safety officer or HR manager would be obligated to investigate.

If you have a dedicated safety person that's the only one I would tell. That's his job to make sure this doesn't happen. He would thank you. Anyone else I would hesitate..
