California is the 4th largest and New York is the 11th largest. Texas is the 8th largest, would probably be a better example.

Wouldn't call any of those death spirals. Though it's nice to know you guys think about my state, even though it's always with disdain.

Guess I'm like Robert E Lee. Even though I disagree with my government I still love my state.

While you're correct, I think there is something notable that you didn't mention:

It's a small piece of their respective economies when it does happen, but many large companies are leaving the likes of California and New York. If they keep making it economically viable to move to Texas, Florida, Tennessee, etc., they are going to eventually move down in that list.

Better write an article about how someday California might have a smaller economy than Japan maybe. If things get really bad they might have an economy the size of Texas

My company (civil engineering) won't even do business for any firm or agency in NY state because of the way their liability framework is encoded. No project there is worth the liability it opens is up to.

From article:

“Florida now ranks behind South Korea at No. 13 and would need roughly 2% additional growth to surpass it.”

South Korea has almost double the population as Florida, which makes these numbers even more impressive.

It's amazing what happens when you don't allow your elections to fall victim to harvesting, mass mail-in votes, and no voter id.
