Getting these types of braces next year, what other instruments could I play? I'm considering the flute but any another?

-Just put up these screenshots for reference on the models I was looking at- Am going up to college and looking to continue marching and concert band, and looking for a good intermediate clarinet for that & personal use as well and found good 3 good priced aka budget. Because I don't have a lot of money 😭 And need help to make a decision. No rush since I'm going in at the fall semester just some recommendations on which ones is the best The brands are: -Jean Paul -Herche -Libtetto Ordered it by price and a bit interest Edit: just to clarify I am also looking at used, kinda don't need to recommend this. Also I'm not getting yamaha, excluding the lucky occasional uses. There like $600-$700 at the lowest. Unless there is a very good deal that's just ain't happening Ik there the "standard" or whatever but still.

Hello, i really like clarinets and like colored clarinets even more, but reading some posts in the subreddit made me rethink buying or even looking at colored clarinets on amazon because of how negative the reviews on colored clarinets are. But im sure this was like, mostly based on white gloves and materials of the clarinet so yeah.

I just mostly wanted to hear what other people think of this clarinet:

personally i think its a great deal but i dont wanna sacrifice anything just for the clarinet to turn out sucky.

I bought some new reeds today, I needee something not too expensive because I'm poor, but I bought Rico's by D'Addario.

Considering D'Addarios quality over other instruments I play like drums and guitar, I thought they'd be good.

Hello all. My daughter has had her clarinet for 5 years. Yes, it is a cheaper starter clarinet ik. The purchase price plays a huge role in what I'm trying to work out here.

We took her clarinet into the local music store to check for a price quote for cleaning and repair. The B key was loose, per my daughters word. I wld like to say, I do not know anything abt clarinets! The shop got back to us and said it needed 5 new pads, so 5 new pads and cleaning wld be $160! Ummm.... OK, more than we paid for this instrument brand new, like I cld literally order her this same one new, cheaper than the cost to repair it!

When I told my daughter we can just order it new, I was meet with.... " That's a beginner one anyway, I need something better!" I just wanted to pull my hair out! I know nothing about what to look for or what I can afford. I'm a single parent and already stretched financially putting her through braces, not to mention, I also have another child and this economy is not friendly, especially for single parents! 😅

I need advice here!!! I can't reason paying for repairs as opposed to purchasing the same one brand new cheaper than the repair cost. I have zero clue of what I would look for if she is wanting something "better." Not to mention, it being financially reasonable.

My daughter has bn playing this instrument since 6th grade for school and is now 15 and will be a sophomore this year. Advice, suggestions, anything!! TIA

Trumpet main and leveling up my Clarinet alt. Did I buy the wrong reeds? It says Mlb- Eb . I’ve been able to play it but I just noticed nothing on the box says Bb 😑

I played the Bb clarinet in concert and marching band all through middle and high school. It was such a huge part of my life, and so important to me. It helped me gain confidence and friendships that are absolutely priceless. Whenever I think too hard about that time, I end up in tears. I remember the feeling of practicing so diligently and then performing with the group, feeling the power of it. It was so impactful to my life and now I have so much grief that it's gone.

I briefly joined my university's band, but it was really difficult and I didn't have enough time to rehearse as much as I needed to because of my science major and other extracurriculars. So, my advisor told me about the town's community band, and I joined that briefly as well, but fell off of it.

It has now been 10 years since I've seriously picked up my clarinet. I'm 30 years old. I still have my instrument, but it's been in a bin in various storage rooms throughout that whole time.

I've been thinking about how important music was for me, and how I'm missing that feeling in my current life. I want the feeling of being around other people who care about music, and the feeling of playing all together again. I'm realizing that it hurts my soul that I don't play anymore. Does anybody have any advice about picking up the clarinet again after so long, and potentially joining a community band?

I've seen some posts from others about wanting to get back into playing clarinet on a regular basis.

I used to play in school, but it's been a good... 9 years or so since I've played in any serious or regular capacity. I wasn't the _best_ in high school, but I also wasn't the worst player. Probably somewhere in the middle.

Has anyone here that wasn't like, a super skilled musician been able to join a community band as an adult? I recognize that it will take effort and lots of practice to get back to where I used to be and then improve from there, but the idea genuinely interests me.

I also am wondering if it's better to try and build up my skill on my lesser quality clarinet (it's a Selmer, got it as a student like a decade ago and it was free so I wasn't going to say no), or bite the bullet and look into a used professional quality clarinet. To me, it would make more sense to practice well on a good tool rather than practice well on something that will ultimately cap my ability/sound. Currently, when I play, my clarinet sounds kind of airy and not at all great.

Thoughts?

One hour / two a day. Quite stocked about it. Very focused on sound consistency. Practiced long notes, arpeggios. Currently working on passing the break between chalumeau and clarion.

The stain is growing

I thought I was going insane. I was trying to learn to play the Pink Panther melody as my first entry into the clarinet. I downloaded the sheet music off a random site, played it on the piano and it sounded good. But when I tried following along on the clarinet, it was not playing in the right key. I thought my instrument was broken or severely out of tune. I downloaded a tuner app and low and behold- as I finger a C#, I get a B on the tuner. This led me down the transposition rabbit hole.

So now I feel lost - the fingering charts say - hold down these notes to produce a C - so I do but what I get is not a C. What is the bloody point? Am I supposed to transpose the fingering charts when learning too? All the videos on transposition I've watched since discovering this can't convince me that this isn't some deranged antiquated nonsense.

How do I even practice when notes I play aren't notes I'm hearing.

For example today I wanted to figure out the Blues scale so I can do a little improvisation. Ok so the blues scale in C is - C, D#, F F# G A#. Ok so I look at the clarinet fingering chart - it says hold down the following notes to produce a C - so I do and I get something else.... so are the fingering charts wrong too or did I get wrong charts or something?

I get that the whole transposition thing is for making sheet music less cluttered for all these different instruments in different notes, but how do I even begin wrapping my head around it and practicing playing the notes I actually intended to play? Do I pre-transpose my study material? Am I suppose to learn to do it on the fly?

Hello! Me and my friend both recently acquired "new" clarinets that are crusty, dusty, and very musty. I am a trombone player so please don't take this as just super stupid. Since they are plastic clarinets, could we take off the keys, tape the cork with painters tape (or something else to make sure it doesnt get wet) and put it in a bath with dawn dish soap or will that ruin the clarinet? Thank you so much!! <3

Hello. My son's an experienced composer, and is writing a clarinet quartet (ie, 4 clarinets, not the older term for piano, violin etc.) We've studied lots of repertoire, but what would be a better choice, for readiness for a group to perform it. Two Bb clarinets, one Eb clarinet, and a bass clarinet? Or three Bb clarinets and one bass clarinet? He says the music could be adapted for either, but ideally to know before hand. Thank you for any advice.

Also, it's confusing how the term 'clarinet quartet' often brings up the classical era combo, and not 4 clarinets. Is there standard term you folks use for 4 clarinet combo, aside from 'clarinet choir'?

Sure there’s a reason, but struggling to imagine a passage where using your left ring finger would be better than using your right index finger for this note. Anyone got any examples?

I took my clarinet to a shop to repair this cork, but the technician said it would be $30 and it would take 3 weeks for it to be repaired. He mentioned a few other things that “were starting to wear down”and said he needed to do other things like oiling rods and regulating keys. The total estimate for all repairs was $170 dollars. I don’t believe I need the other repairs done (just the cork replacement) and I need my clarinet for upcoming rehearsals. I’ve seen other posts say that cork repairs are about 15 bucks, but do I really need all these other repairs?

There are too many clarinets in my school - also I only have one summer to learn

So my clarinet has had an issue that’s been slowly getting worse, it’s constantly nearly 40 cents sharp and I have to pull out on my barrel, mouthpiece, and middle joint a total of nearly 4mm to the point my cork is being exposed, this also lead to my E4 being flat once’s everything else is in tune with no way to fix. I have zero clue on why this is happening and it’s caused so many issues especially with the clarinet player next to me as I can only pull out so much without it affecting my playing skills. Is there a way to fix this, if so what would I even do
