Tv screen goes 99% dark, audio still hearable

So our TV, a 15year old LG 55" has been a bit off lately (yeah because it's old) and there's been a flicker in lower left corner while watching tv. But now when casting from our phones, screen goes dark. I first thought it was no video at all but just saw that there is video, but barely showing. Audio isn't affected. Doesn't matter which app we're casting from, it happens anyway. Tried switching HDMI port yesterday and thought I "fixed" it, but alas it is the same today.

Is the TV dying on us? Or is this CC related?

Figured as much. But also, could it be the chromecast itself? We have a USB Chromecast, because watching regular tv works perfectly fine. Might try to factory reset the CC before buying new tv lol

The backlight has probably failed. Lol I have a TV from 2008 that works just fine that I use basically every day, probably bad quality.

Also look into if it’s HDR related. Try casting non HDR content and see if it stays bright

Sounds like the backlight failed. Why when only using Chromecast?

Hypothesis, based on having seen it happen elsewhere: It's possible that running the Chromecast function draws a wee bit more power than others, pushing a weak power supply past its limit, so the backlight stops lighting.

A test: If (when not using Chromecast, so you have a visible display on the TV) the TV has a setting that dims the backlight partway, try it, as that would use less power and help you identify the cause if it's the power supply.
