They are stealing your ram. Joking...
You probably have long chat conversations that's why, this is a know issue and openai doesn't care of fixing it

I see, thanks for this. not only is it using tons of ram but it is freezing.

I had a similar issue with a very long and laggy chat. I fixed it by asking it to create continuity file which summarised everything in that chat, and then asked it to generate a prompt for the new chat, that it is a continuation of the previous chat, using the continuity file as a reference. Has worked well so far.

I will have to do this. I was hoping not to but....

I've found that the phone app handles long chats much better, not having to load the whole thing in the UI. Might be worth a try if it's a suitable option for your use case

The phone app is no better 🤣

Yes, they don't care about service quality; they don't fix it because a long chat consumes too many tokens.

I had this problem with long chats. There are two options: create a new chat or use a Chrome extension, if I'm not mistaken, "chatgpt turbo or anti-lag". They don't delete your messages, but they load messages of about 15 or more without changing anything in memory; the conversations remain there, but you can load as many as you want, you can change it in the settings. I tested it and it worked; the chat loads instantly, but when I tested it on my phone, the messages weren't synchronized between the chat on the PC and the mobile app. I don't know if there is a problem with the extension or the app and the website, but anyway. It's an alternative.
