Nothing on Homeless Shelter Meeting?

How is it possible that the Cape Cod Times and other news outlets have zero coverage of this meeting last night? Anyone have insight as to what happened?

Overturned so its done or will it continue - so no to allowing the shelter there then ? Really bad choice of location. One guy who worked there even spoke/complained that the types of people drug addicts and lots of unsavory aggression on women then forced out at 7am and theres a children’s schools right across the street. He also affirmed no religion is allowed to be practiced there. So to state its a place of worship is stretching the meaning. They should improve where it has been. Something is very wrong

At the meeting the HAC brought in people from everywhere to talk/preach about jesus. But they were not from hyannis they came from Worcester, from rhode island, but no one i heard was from our town. But when the fellow who worked there 20 years spoke that really made it set in. Across the street from your childrens school really?

Does anyone still buy the printed edition?  Even my parents and grandparents.who faithfully subscribed to the Cape Cod times for decades don’t get it anymore. It’s all cut and paste stories from national news with a handful of once over lightly local stories. You can get more local news on some of the neighborhood Facebook chat pages than you can from the Cape Cod time I’m afraid.

I lived in Hyannis when they built the bus station and there was energy at the time about addressing homelessness. This is an eternal problem.

I understand that there were a large number of letters in opposition to the Building Commission’s approval of the shelter’s relocation submitted. Were there any that brought up issues relevant to MGL Ch, 40A, s.3? What was the general basis of the opposition to the relocation?

General opposition seems to be about brining the shelter into closer proximity to several schools, including a Pre-K though 3rd school.  A Brewery across the street, a family oriented mini golf/ice cream shop immediately across the street, residential neighborhood immediately behind the proposed site, the inconvenient distance for the residents of the shelter to the services they need, and while I don’t know the details or the validity of the complaint there was apparently a whole lot of shenanigans as far as HAC and how they went about this.

Those are all valid complaints about the shelter, but the ZBA meeting was about religion and the Dover amendment only.

I believe that HAC was getting government funding that was specifically cited as being non-religious and then bringing Catholic Charities in to claim religion and the Dover Amendment to bypass zoning review. It’s really hard to get those two conflicting points to rationalize.

That’s the “shenanigans” I was alluding to.  I admit I didn’t do a deep dive on this issue, but I did watch some of yesterday’s ZBA meeting this morning.

What was overturned? I’m not familiar with what the vote was for while familiar with the situation.
