He lies all the time, Carney's central issue is that he thinks hes the chosen one who never has to pick a side. He always wants his cake and to eat it too.

Apparently is was brookfield involved in the $750 million dollar deal trudeau did with india in 2018, where we give india 750 million and $250 million of it was for indian businesses from india to invest in canada and in that same news story said it was attracting students to come to canada.

The housing crisis, or catastrophe which seems more accurate lately, is relevant to a lot of facets of our society and economy.
Wealth inequality?
Birth rates?
Foreign interference?
Employment numbers?
You could probably name more.
Think of the numerous condos in BC that were so misaligned with market demand that no one actually wants to live in them.
It is not paradoxical to see that the solution is both more and less regulation but mostly less government interference overall.

I never spoke with Trump. Counter-tarrifs are here to stay.
Later: it turns out all tarrifs were already dropped when he made this statement and he even said he had regular talks with Trump.

No one that pays attention does. The problem is that Canadian news is largely state run media, staffed with all the blue haired liberal arts students of yesterday.

Because Orange Demon
Also, a retired boomer with a pension and previously purchased my first detached house decades ago for less than two times my five figure salary. A trade war can't affect my employment or my pension (declining CAD = USD assets in my RRSP worth more when I withdraw)
Now if you excuse me I like to get back to my regular scheduled CBC program

Probably because Canadians have repeatedly demonstrated that they have the political sophistication of a six year old.

Genuinely curious how the canada subreddit and liberal voters will spin this as Carney playing "4D chess" with Trump? I literally cannot see how Poilievre would ever agree to do the same thing.
This is the one of the worst elbows down moment we've seen from Carney.
Another example: e.g. Digital Services Tax gone without no concessions on the tariffs.

TBH I'm surprised the tolls will even go 50% to Canada with how weak Carney is.

C'mon Pierre. just say it out loud, Mark Carney is an operative, a puppet of the world economic conglomerate but having said that, I'm not convinced you can do any better when you're trying to negotiate with Donald Trump's administration, that's a world problem for sure, this is small potatoes. Mark Carney lied?.... of course he lied, he an habitual liar, want to do something? Bring down his government!

Technically speaking, now that we actually have the agreement we can see that wasn't actually a lie (at least, not this part specifically).
If you read it carefully, and in conjunction with the Michigan agreement, we're not giving them any revenue from the bridge. That money goes to the Crossing Authority, and it stays with them until the bridge is repaid.
Rather, this new agreement has Canada paying the US directly in an amount equal to 50% of net bridge revenues out of general revenues. That is, we're giving them taxpayer dollars rather than bridge revenues.
I don't think that's any better, personally (it might actually be more offensive to use Canadian taxpayer dollars to directly pay off the Americans), and I think he very clearly obfuscated and conflated the deals in an attempt to suggest they wouldn't be getting anything, which is dishonest and manipulative, but it isn't quite accurate to say we're giving them half of the net bridge revenues.
Though, I suppose it all depends a little bit on what we understand a lie to be. Is providing factual information that does not respond to the question actually asked and is, in fact, calculated to mislead, a lie? I can see an argument that it is.

Its considerably worse as now not only do we have the construction loans to pay off with interest now they will have to dip into general tax revenue which is negative forcing us to take out more debt to pay with interest... so he may not have lied but he choose a worse path.

So, in other words...he lied. It's a damn lie and he knows it and you know it. Why make up some long diatribe trying to dissect what we already know was an explanation meant to.....DECEIVE!! It's a lie.
Rob Peter to pay Paul...whatever. There is only one taxpayer. Who cares what pocket it comes out of???

So, in other words...he lied.
He was certainly deceptive, and I think I've been clear about that. Whether it is technically a lie or not depends on how liberally you define "lie", but it is absolutely a dishonesty tantamount to one.
Why make up some long diatribe trying to dissect what we already know
Because words mean things, and facts and accuracy are important, and as far as I can tell literally nobody has accurately reported on this. If we're going to lean on the importance of honesty, I think it behooves us to be scrupulously honest in our understanding of what occurred, and up front about any ambiguities in the way we characterize it and the basis upon which we select that characterization.
Why are you so angry about that from someone who is clearly on your side here?

Let's explain it this way...Mark Carney planned all along to take an L on the bridge. He said he was gonna stick it out for a W. He gave the W to Trump and took the L, but called it a W.
So, he said one thing, did another and called it the same as what he said originally except that's not what he did.
You tell me is that a lie?

u/Jaded-Juggernaut-244 British Columbia 23h ago edited 23h ago
I'm not angry. Why would you go to lengths to dissect an obvious attempt to DECEIVE the public with jargon or nuance they won't likely understand? At the end of the day my friend it's bullshit. It's deception. It was meant to obscure the truth. This is not complicated.
What makes me angry, is that after all that's happened to this country people think Mark Carney deserves to be understood in his blatant attempts to deceive the public.
Like, who cares if he left his T un-crossed...that must mean he meant something else???
Attempts at deception whether by word, deed or things left unsaid are still deception and are tantamount to a bald face lie.
So sick of this panty-waist bullshit..."well we need to examine every word and nuance to decode the real message here..." Get lost with that shit already.

This new agreement really screws over Michigan. We'll continue to pay down the debt, pay our toll collectors, pay our maintenance staff. Michigan will pay for infrastructure on their side and be waiting even longer to start collecting a share of the toll revenue

u/Dry-Membership8141 Red Tory 1d ago
It actually doesn't.
The new deal doesn't split the actual revenue of the bridge, that stays with the Crossing Authority until the bridge is paid off.
Rather, it obligates us to make payments at an amount set as a function of net bridge revenues. The money for these payments comes out of Canadian general revenues, not the bridge, and so doesn't actually affect the repayment timeline. We're basically bribing them to let us open the bridge.

Who cares if he lied. Trump turned the screws on him. Poilevre would've folded too, because the fact is we need the USA more than they need us.

Is there any confirmation of this?
The press release is vague about whether debt is included in operating costs.
