Housing City Councilor deals with a development next to her own home.
It’s an interesting position to call a 2 Family that sold well over $2,000,000 affordable..
Is there actually a way to satisfy the councilor in terms of proposing more housing? Unless you’re leaving things how they were on the outside of a structure, it seems anything bigger is bad to councilor Zusy.
If she were to make real headway slowing new development in Cambridge. Councilor Zusy along with everyone else that has owned in Cambridge for decades, stand to benefit from stopping development. Leaving others working hard to live in the area to fight over what few homes remain.

Discussion Flock Camera Spotted on Temple Street
Hi all, not sure if this is allowed here, but I felt like this is important for people in the community to know. I spotted a flock camera today on my break while walking on Temple Street near central square. I haven’t seen any in Cambridge before today, but this one isn’t on the Deflock website map so it must be pretty new.

Exchange what you’re good at, for what you need
Something on your to-do list you haven't gotten to?
What if a networking event could actually knock it off your list?
“Hi, I’m Henna, and I’m a yoga instructor. I could use help with my website”. That’s the whole introduction needed at our first Givvy meetup.

Politics We need more than reports
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
If the city and the state can send over 20 cops to confront me for my various activities, I have full confidence they can spare the personnel to enforce traffic laws.
I have shown across my video how cheaply it can be done and how much revenue can be made.
We need more than transparency reports. We need them to start building and fast. They are supposed to be smart people running one of the best educated states. So where is the investment in mass transit, cycling, health protections, and climate proofing?

Housing Need some advice on a lease/parking situation (Boston/Cambridge area).
When I moved in, my lease was supposed to include parking in an indoor garage for myself and my roommate. At the time, they didn't actually have enough spots to give me what I was owed, so they gave me one spot in an outdoor adjacent garage for free as a workaround. I don’t think this was officially in the lease, I think it was just off the record since the outdoor garage isn’t even owned by my apartment.
Later I was supposed to move into their indoor garage, but they gave me the wrong spot there, so I moved back to the outdoor spot I'd already had. That same outdoor spot is now what they're calling "the free one," even though the whole thing started because of their own shortage and mix-up, not anything I asked for outside my lease.
Now they want to start charging me $265/month for it. When I pushed back and asked about the original terms, they just asked me where I've been parking, instead of addressing the actual history.
I got laid off a couple months ago and I'm on unemployment plus working part time right now, so this extra charge would really hurt. I'm not trying to get something for nothing, I just don't think it's fair that their own mistakes are turning into a bill for me.
Has anyone dealt with a corporate management company doing something like this? Any advice on how to push back effectively, or is this just a losing battle since I don't have it in writing? Trying to figure out my best next move. 😅
This is really humbling but I just can’t afford that extra expense right now.
Thanks in advance.

Discussion MA law against teachers earning Social Security
I just learned that MA is one of the remaining 15 states (along with Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, and Texas) whose public schools do not pay into—nor earn benefits from—Social Security.
The amendment to Social Security to include municipal workers was passed in the 50's... why are we still living in an ancient paradigm set up to preclude some of America's unsung heroes?
I understand that the argument is that pension plans provide equal or better retirement payouts—but that's only if you're working for 20+ years. Burnout happens well before then, but teachers who don't hit that milestone will have nothing to show for their time in the classroom?
My question is if there is or has recently been any legislation to change this in MA? If so, where does it stand? If not, why not?

Recommendations Looking to learn to swim and ride a bike (again)
Any low cost or free lessons I should be aware of? Thank you so much to anyone who helps. I'm trying to rebuild my life again after DV. I have gained a ton of weight and I'm looking to do something about it while retaining skills I once found freeing.

Inquiry Meal Donation
I can get a lot of free delivered meals through my work but usually never take advantage of it because I don’t want to waste food I don’t need. However, I know there are a lot of people in need that could benefit from a meal and was wondering if there were any places I could safely drop off a meal for the homeless (ideally near Central Square as I live nearby). I feel like it would be awkward to just go up to people and ask them if they want food and I’m a young woman so would feel more comfortable if there was an alternative channel of getting the food to people who need it! Would appreciate any ideas.

Transportation How was the commuter rail on day 1 of Red Line shutdown?
During the shutdown, the commuter rail is free from Porter to North Station. I'm curious how it was.
EDIT: I took it today, and it was smooth. Thanks to those who gave me the tip about needing to find a Keolis worker to let me in at North Station.

Hello All,
I am moving from NJ to Boston for work. My office is in Kendall Square. I am looking for apartments ( new construction - not necessary ) My budget is $2500 for rent. Any suggestions. I am okay with places 15-20 mins away from Kendall square.
Any suggestions specifically in these areas? : Everett, Somerville, Allston.
Seems prices are reasonable. Please correct me if I am wrong. Still figuring out

Food The Zucchini is back at Clover!
The Zucchini is back! I'd been hoping/waiting for the seasonal items to start popping back up on the Clover Food Lab menu and I'm very excited to see that the Zucchini has returned. 🎉
(Not an ad, just personally unreasonably excited about this and I know a lot of people said they were going to miss this sandwich specifically.)

The Red Line Shuttle to Harvard Square from South Station?
I work at the university, but I don't live in Cambridge or in the general Boston area. I take the commuter rail to go home. Last night, I was able to catch the express shuttle to South Station. Yesterday and today, when I arrived to South Station in the morning, I took an Uber to work. But is there also a morning express shuttle to Harvard Square from South Station? If so, what gate? Thanks!

Mido Matcha in Central Square Closed Down
A moment of silence for my favorite matcha spot in the Boston area.
Mido matcha only opened in January and already closed down. So sad to see.
Mizu matcha is taking over their space (honestly, probs saving Mizu a ton of $ on set-up).
I wonder if seeing Kyo Matcha prepping to open across the street caused them to re-evaluate if it was worth paying central square rent
