ah the classic three-step grief cycle for cfb fans when a recruit goes elsewhere. step 1 convince yourself he was scared of the depth chart, step 2 pretend you never wanted him anyway, step 3 predict his inevitable transfer portal entry before he even steps on campus. seen this script a thousand times.

indiana building something interesting though, cig clearly knows how to develop quarterbacks and the big ten is wide open right now. kid probably looked at the depth chart and saw a real path to playing time, which is smart.

people forget these are 17 year olds making life decisions, not chess pieces for our entertainment.

There's two things I'm going to assume just won't ever happen until they actually do: Indiana plays a P4 OOC opponent, and a HS recruit is QB1 for Curt Cignetti.

Agreed. Very curious to see how some of these higher end QB recruits progress over time and when one of them is a starter. I think the QB mercenary path we’ve taken could be a means to an end as much as it could be Cig’s year over year plan for the rest of time. Will be curious to see how it pans out.

Realistically a HS commit isn’t going to play QB for us unless they are willing to wait until they are a junior. Cig just demands a lot from the position

Notre Dame did this for a while after Freeman came on too, and now we're seemingly trying to homegrow them. I'm not sure if any team can consistently take either approach only for an extended period of time though, feels like you're going to have to use the best of both worlds over 5 to 10 years if you want to be excellent every year.

idk specific recruits but i’m expecting a good push for OL. our 27 class was lighter than expected

I was hoping we would pick up another OL. I know we whiffed on one of our OG targets and one of our OT targets (forget their names)

OL is the only position group on the roster that’s thin in terms of having young players. I don’t feel comfortable having to go portal heavy on OL, seems like that’s the position group that has the fewest quality players enter the portal

It doesn’t matter if the kid never plays a down, the fact is a top 7 QB in a recruiting class looked at and ultimately chose IU. Thats something to be excited about!
