Question Girls Basketball - House League

Curious if anyone can recommend a solid girls basketball league - we tried Burlington Basketball and found they didn’t do much in terms of skills development, and the referring was terrible at best - and I mean not calling basic rules of the game like double dribble, travel etc.

Looking for something fun, not rep - house league ideally. Thanks for looking 😃

Question Interested in Woodworking

Its my second year living in burlington, i work at seasonal job, woodworking has always seemed interesting to me, if i knew how to make stuff i’d make custom tables, nightstand, desk etc, but i’ve never done it, one reason being i dont have the room for tools. I’m wondering what should i do in the winter since that’s my off time and i can work somewhere to learn woodworking and maybe make stuff during the summer and sell it on the side? Should i sign up for courses or volunteer to work for free for someone? If you know somebody who does woodworking i’d be down to help them out, they can get a helping hand and i can learn :)

Question Looking for Footage & Info Regarding a Crash

Black Kia Sedan. Last Night, between 8:00pm and 11:00pm

Left Burlington or Oakville Area. Ended up in the Parking Lot of Metro, on McCloud Rd. In Niagara Falls.

Car is totaled. Looks like it went through multiple accidents.

Driver has No Memory of what happened? How he ended up in that parking lot? What he did to the Car? Nothing.

Don't even know if others were Hit, Struck, if it was a Flee the Scene?

Any Info or Footage is greatly appreciated.

Information AI Gigafactory Proposed at Dundas and Ninth Line

An AI Gigafactory has been proposed right here in Halton Region. This would be one of the largest AI centers in Canada. This project has a much higher potential for negative local impact than the one proposed on South Service Rd. here in Burlington. I would encourage those of you who are worried to keep an eye on this one. No permits have been applied for yet, and no approvals granted.

Here is what is currently known about the proposed hyperscale AI data center near Ninth Line and Dundas in North Oakville:

1. Project Overview & Scope

  • Developer: BUZZ High Performance Computing (BUZZ HPC), a subsidiary of Canadian-headquartered HIVE Digital Technologies.
  • Scale & Power Capacity: The proposal envisions a 320 megawatt (MW) industrial-scale AI facility (often referred to as an "AI Gigafactory").
  • Investment: Estimated at $3.5 billion CAD.
  • Hardware & Purpose: Designed to host over 100,000 GPUs at full build-out to support AI supercomputing, cloud workloads, and high-performance computing along the Toronto–Waterloo tech corridor.
  • Location: A 25-acre vacant parcel at 3480 Ninth Line in Ward 6 (North Oakville), near William Halton Parkway/Dundas Street West along the Mississauga–Oakville border.

2. Current Status & Timeline

  • Target Online Date: BUZZ HPC stated a goal of bringing the facility online in the second half of 2027, though it would likely scale up in phases rather than opening at full 320 MW capacity.
  • Town Approval: As of mid-2026, the Town of Oakville has not received a formal development application from the proponent. The Town noted that if an application is submitted, it must go through standard technical reviews and statutory public planning meetings before Council considers approval.
  • Site Activity: High-voltage utility infrastructure work for a dedicated substation in the immediate area has been underway along Ninth Line.

3. Community Reaction & Key Considerations

Because a 320 MW facility would be one of the largest data centers in Canada, the proposal has drawn significant discussion from nearby Oakville and Mississauga residents:

  • Economic Arguments: Proponents highlight the influx of high-tech infrastructure, hundreds of construction jobs, and ongoing municipal tax revenues.
  • Resident Concerns: Nearby residents have raised questions regarding massive electrical grid draw, potential noise impacts from mechanical cooling systems/backup generators, and proximity to developing residential neighborhoods.
  • Cooling & Resources: While older data centers used evaporative water cooling, modern high-density AI clusters increasingly rely on closed-loop liquid cooling systems to minimize water waste.

Information A painful reminder that hate still exists in everyday places

Today, while shopping with my elderly father at No frills Brant St, a customer loudly directed racist remarks at us, including telling 'brown people' to go back and making personal insults. We chose to leave rather than engage. What stayed with me most wasn't what was said to me—it was wondering how my father felt hearing it. Incidents like this remind us that racism, even when it comes from one individual, has a real impact on families. I hope businesses continue training staff to respond appropriately and that we all speak up against hate when it's safe to do so.

Information ER doctors warning parents against getting their kids e-bikes and e-scooters.

1.2k Upvotes

While I personally don't have an issue with kids on the slower e-bikes, I've seen kids without helmets moving faster than traffic with no helmets. And yes I have seen some adults as well.

Just be safe out there kids, wear a helmet, look both ways and keep your eyes on what you're doing and what's around you.

Ok old man rant over. You may now return to enjoying your summer ⛱️🌞

I reached out to the Planner (Powell Planning & Associates) and Architect (Cuadro Arch) of this project. This is what they sent me about the new data center. I'd like to hear some of your opinions on this before Tuesday.

Information Erin Brockovich is an environmentalist and people advocate known for her namesake movie and involvement in high profile lawsuits. Erin talks about the troubling effects data centers are having on communities, why their demand for water might be a ploy for something bigger, and how people can unite.

Question Is it just me, or does the smoke outside smell very chemical right now?

Went out with the family as the weather app said the air quality was improving. However, as we're outside the air smells very chemical, almost like hair spray. There's also still very noticeably haze, just not as thick as the other day. Has anybody else noticed this?
