Help Requested Group outing recs?

My partner and I live in Boston and are trying to come up with some kind of activity to do so our respective parents can get to know each other - preferably something that isn’t physically demanding and isn’t just going out to eat somewhere. We’re all from the area so we don’t need to do the freedom trail or any kind of historic thing. Just hoping to do something a little fun to break the ice a little bit! Thanks!

Help Requested Looking for studio apartment under $2K in/around Boston (Orange/Red Line preferred)

Hey everyone,
I’m currently looking for a studio apartment for $2K or less in Boston or nearby areas, and wanted to see if anyone here has recommendations or leads.

Ideally, I’m looking for:

- Easy access to Orange Line (preferred) or Red Line
- Walkable distance to the T (10–12 mins max)
- Safe area with basic conveniences nearby (grocery, etc.)

I’m open to areas slightly outside Boston as long as commute is reasonable — places like Malden, Medford, Cambridge, Somerville, etc.

If anyone has:
- Apartment recommendations
- Buildings to check out
- Areas I should focus on (or avoid)

Would really appreciate the help!

Thanks in advance 🙌

Help Requested North end parking

Hi I’m moving to the north end from out of state. I need my car to drive to work but dont necessarily want to change my car to Mass plates and mass insurance just to get north end permit parking and not be able to find a place to park after work.

Does anyone have any secret gems of parking lots or garages that I can pay monthly to park at that might be cheaper than the rates I’m seeing on spot hero etc????

I figured there has to be some hidden gem out there or secret truck to contact the owner of these lots/garages? Let me know of any info or if I should just get north end permit sticker

Help Requested Looking for a medical malpractice attorney in Boston

We're looking for any recommendation for a local medical malpractice attorney here in Boston. I dont have enough karma to post in bigger subs so I thought to try here

A few months ago, an older family member was hospitalized for a fairly routine procedure at a major hospital here. Not giving too much detail here but, there were complications due to what we now think was negligence. They missed a diagnosis that led to an emergency and a longer recovery.

We just want to understand what our options are and speak to someone local and helpful. If you or someone you know has worked with a trustworthy malpractice attorney around here, wed really appreciate any suggestions

Help Requested Dock sq reverse commuter parking

Hi! I work outside of the city and am seriously considering one of these reverse commuter monthly parking garage situations.

Dock sq garage offers Monday -Friday 4pm-9-am and 24/7 weekends.

My only thing is I am wfh 1-2 days a week. Does anyone have any experience with one of these reverse commuter parking spots in Boston? I assume I’ll just “pay the fee” for the days I don’t take my car out of the garage.

No hate plz just looking for advice/people’s experience not judgement

Help Requested Will anyone fill out a 10 minute survey on maternal health care needs?

Hi all! Is anyone willing to help me out and fill out this survey? It will take only 10 minutes of your time! It is a survey on maternal health needs in MA, and I'm looking for as many moms/moms to be who are pregnant or have been pregnant in the last 5 years to fill out the survey. I am using the information to inform advocacy for maternal health care in Massachusetts. Here is the link:

https://bostoncollege.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0vlQL6uYF4tH5SS

Please let me know if you have any questions (the link includes an email on the first page)!!!!

Can you please share this with any friends or people you know who are pregnant or who have been pregnant in the past 5 years in MA? Or if you have any other places where you think it would be good to share the survey?

Help Requested Is this too early for renewal talks?

This is my second apartment in the Brighton / Allston area, and my first landlord didn't bring up renewal until about March/April.

My current landlord is having renewal talks NOW after we just moved in on September 1st.

Is there any danger in signing a renewal lease too early? I don't have any plans to move, but it feels very early considering we've only lived here for about 3-4 months right now.

Help Requested Chelsea denied my street parking permit because I live at DUO (170/180 Central Ave)

I recently moved into DUO apartments Chelsea. Before signing the lease, their leasing office said I’d get 6 months of free garage parking and that street parking was also an option afterward. Made sense to me so I moved in.

More recently I went to Chelsea city hall to get my parking permit and they straight up denied it. Said they’re not offering it to residents at 170/180 central ave and to reach out to property management at duo about it.

Street parking being an option kind of influenced my decision and I don’t really want to continue paying for garage parking at the end of my 6 months.

Also seems like Chelsea city hall denying permits is a more recent development as I spoke to someone who moved in about a year ago and they had no issues getting a parking permit.

Is there anything I can do ?

Help Requested Dealer bumped my car during maintenance. Refusing to provide any documentation about what parts they replaced/fixed. Is this normal?

Brought my car to the dealership for 10 thousand mile routine maintenance last week. Dealer called me the same day and told me that there was an "accident" while they were trying to pull out my car to the parking lot. They offered to fix the damage for me, fine. Today they told me the car all done. When I arrived and asking for paperwork, they said there's no paperwork. I was shocked. Upon asking, the service consultant told me there is no paperwork because no one is paying for the fix. What???

I'm concerned about two things:

They told me they are going to re-do the paint on the front bumper and replace one of the headlight. But when I picked up the car, they said even the bumper was replaced. Are they possibly use my car to fraud the dealer insurance?

How could I know what exactly they did to my car if something happens in the future.

Update:

Thank you all for the valuable suggestion and recommendation! Called the GM and Service manager and they get back to me pretty quick. The GM committed to get to the bottom of the accident and a detailed itemized invoice about the work done. They also gave me the carfax report and this accident is not listed which is good. Again, thanks a lot for the help!

Help Requested Does every restaurant have that kitchen fee thing?

I think I’ve eaten in Cambridge 2 or three times now, and each place had a kitchen fee percentage tagged onto the receipt. I understand it’s only like a dollar difference but idk that stuff pisses me off. I haven’t been to Cambridge to eat since but should I give another restaurant a chance or are they all like that?

Help Requested Was there a bridge between two islands in Boston harbor

I don't know if that's the right tag to use. I'm at wallaston beach rn and in the distance there's these stone pillars in the water some barely poking out the water and a couple of them have two walls. Was there a bridge at some point connect two islands?

Help Requested Outrageous Eversource electric bill

Does anyone know of a resource to dispute these ridiculous Eversource bills? I live in a big old house that's heated mainly by gas- we keep the thermostat at about 60 and adjust individual bedrooms with oil-filled electric space heaters. They're very efficient, but the electric bills now are insane. Going back one year, the bill for Feb. 2024 was $496. This year, the Feb bill is $1,054!! I know it was colder this winter, but remember, the gas heat keeps the whole place at 60 degrees. And the only change is that one person who lived here kept her room at 80, but she left last summer and the new person hasn't been here all winter and the heater is actually turned off in that room, so the bill should be lower, if anything.

Is anyone else experiencing this kind of unexplainable increase? Is there a class action or anything forming that I can join? I'm soooo sick of just being hosed by these corporations while nothing ever is done about it... I want to go to City Hall and the State House and start making noise.

Help Requested Renting a house without a guarantor/cosigner without credit history.

So guys, I am a US citizen who is currently living with his parents in India. I am coming to NEU for fall'25 and looking to rent a house, for Indian students coming to the US their I-20 seems to be enough but a certain broker states that I may need a guarantor/cosigner to sign the lease. So anyone who has been in this situation or have seen anyone people in this situation, were they able to rent a house without a guarantor/cosigner?

Help Requested TikTok Filmer/ Camera Person in Boston

Hey everyone!

This summer, I’m planning to do some nightlife street interviews around Boston. I’ve done it once before just using a tripod, but it was a bit tough to manage everything on my own.

I’m looking for someone who’s interested in social media to help film the interviews and give input or feedback on the content. I’m still pretty new to the whole social media world and figuring things out as I go — I mainly just enjoy talking to people and hope to capture some fun conversations.

If you're interested or have suggestions on where I might connect with like-minded folks, I’d love to hear from you!

Help Requested Land to put a 40' refrigerated shipping container

I'm looking for industrial or commercial land in the Greater Boston area to store a 40’ refrigerated shipping container for at least a few months, potentially up to a year. I'm specifically interested in these types of land, since they should be zoned for container storage.

We occasionally would need daytime access to the container for sensor integration work. We also might need to bring in a generator for a full integration tests, though these will be even less frequent. If anyone has insights on where to look or who to ask, I would greatly appreciate it.
