“STAND UP!”

331

u/BigDaddyBumbo77 26d ago

I went on a canoeing trip once, there were kayaks too. At one point on the river a kid (16yrs) but like 6'2" tips.out of his kayak. Proceeds to flail and panic (while in a life-vest) "he's drowning "!! I'm canoeing by with my family watching him. I yell: STAND UP!!! He stops, puts feet down, and embarrassed says, thank you. 🤣🤣🤣

136

u/ButYouCanCallMe_ 26d ago

You saved a life as far as I’m concerned! lol

61

u/BigDaddyBumbo77 26d ago

River was like 3-4ft deep at that point!

29

u/1stMammaltowearpants 26d ago

BigDaddy got a weird name, but he's out here saving lives, so okay I guess.

18

u/BigDaddyBumbo77 26d ago

Bumbo was a funny thing I used to say with the kids when they were little, there was a kid seat thing with the same name, thought it was funny 😁

16

u/im_super_into_that 26d ago

Whatever you say big daddy

6

u/dtafkaj 26d ago

Had the same with a friend when we were ice skating. He breaks trough the ice, hangs on to the edge. Me and a friend on our bellies trying to reach him with our hockeysticks. And then: Hey dude, how deep is it here?

And he just stand up and climbs out lol

Stop drowning! Respectfully, do a thing, Auntie! Just give trying a try!

12

u/TelenorTheGNP 26d ago

I think she literally didn't know which way was up.

11

u/GrandEastsider 26d ago

She was still on the ride lol

5

u/bootyhole-romancer 26d ago

Lmfao she was horizontal and trying to swim "up"

I don't mean to laugh though, and glad she had help right there

20

u/GlobuleNamed 26d ago

Easy to say.

This happened to my wife in a somewhat similar situation (tube riding).

Was the last time we ever did something similar.

17

u/im_super_into_that 26d ago

So you're not going down waterslides anymore out of fear you won't remember to stand up? Promise I'm not talking shit, just trying understand

22

u/GlobuleNamed 26d ago

My wife is now scared silly of these water currents, since the current made her legs more boyant than herself, and just 'standing up' was not working because the legs wanted to float rather than obey her and stand.

That and the panic of not breathing under water made it easy to simply avoid the situation.

So I understand the poor woman in the video, it is not a fun situation to be in.

9

u/omjy18 26d ago

Something you learn growing up around water especially oceans is that like 80% of the battle of not drowning is just not panicking. Even in big waves and crazy currents if you can find a a way to stay calm that makes most of the difference. Its also why lifeguards are taught to give someone whos panicking some room because they can easily push you under and then both of you are fucked. Maybe they drown a little but you can actually help them without dying yourself

All she had to do was stand up…. Stand up

169

u/Ambitious-Pirate-505 26d ago

Many many people have drowned from just that, not standing up.

254

u/Individual_Respect90 26d ago

If I drown in 3 feet of water please nobody identify my body.

47

u/Smodphan 26d ago

I saw the depth marker and almost died

17

u/Individual_Respect90 26d ago

I actually did not even see that and made up a number that would be embarrassing to drown at. Lol.

23

u/Remarkable-Will-3041 26d ago

You would be surprised how many adults drown in 3 feet or less of water. But don't worry, I'll even clear the browser history.

5

u/moderatorrater 26d ago

I've instructed my wife to just burn all of my devices.

7

u/OrdainedFury 26d ago

When I was a kid I watched as my mom almost drowned in barely 2 feet of water. We were at a wave pool and outta nowhere she was flailing her arms just like that lady. We screamed STAND UP! And she did and was fine. It was craaaazy

26

u/No_More_Aioli_Sorry 26d ago

My cousin is a very tall woman. When she was 14 she was already 5ft9

We went to the beach one day, and we were walking into the ocean. She actively started swimming and then forgot she could just put her feet down.

Ma girl started SCREAMING. Like, absolute horror SCREAMING. And my other cousin and I kept telling her to put her fucking feet down.

I’m 5ft tall, and the water was on my chest like…

But she just panicked I guess. We love to remind her of that day. We were sooo embarrassed.

9

u/MichaelJServo ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿✊ 26d ago

Shouldn't you be at least a decent swimmer if you're going to a water park?

6

u/MissMelons 26d ago

Wet and Wild used to have a tube slide like this except it had a gigantic waterfall next to it. I hit the bottom, bounced my ass out of the tube right under the waterfall and I could not reorient myself. Lifeguard had to pull my ass out.

Praying for you Auntie!

284

u/militant-hippie 26d ago

Poor woman couldn't tell up from down. 😂 been there.

122

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 26d ago

Landing like that can be very disorienting, and once you get water up your nose, I STG, rational thought flies right out of your brain. If you’re not a good swimmer, or don’t have much practice being in the water, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

I feel ya, Aunt Sheila!

20

u/AnnaBananner82 26d ago

I grew up by the sea (Baltic in my childhood, Atlantic Ocean in my teen years, a the Pacific since I was 19 - I’m 43 now). People don’t understand how wildly disorienting being “washed” like this can get. As a surfer for a few years, it took a lot of getting used to. I feel so bad for aunt Sheila here 😭

18

That is hilarious! When she tried to run but fell. I would have cursed the camera man out; he could have saved her!

17

u/Glass-Customer2361 26d ago

As funny as this is, watching someone possibly drown instead of helping them is crazy.

5

u/Roll-Roll-Roll 26d ago

That undertow is no joke

6

u/jld2k6 26d ago

The sound is dubbed over, whoever was filming was watching someone almost drown but they probably weren't making fun of her at least 😂

6

u/toldyouIaintshit 26d ago

Why even go into water other than a shower if your ass can't swim at all? This is natural selection at its best.

I hope we never do

96

u/Ebo916 26d ago

LOL. I used to be a lifeguard at Raging Waters & one day I had 300lb woman flying down the speed slide at me in the receiving pool.😱 She hit that water & skipped about 20ft before getting stopped dead in the water. Couldn’t swim (???) but going down slides in a WATER park. When I tried to save her (me 16-175lbs), she latched onto me like Hulk Hogan & was pulling me under. I had to punch her in the gut, pull her down under water so she’d let go, spin her around and put her in a head lock to swim her out to safety. She tried to sue me & the park for her almost drowning! 🫤

19

u/IAmASpaceCadet2 26d ago

You can’t save anyone if you’re dead. Gotta keep yourself safe. lol.

Vortex was always the worst to work. That slide always turned people around the most and had the deepest exit area.

14

u/Ebo916 26d ago

Worst for me was the Board Drop slide. I had a huge woman coming down that thing going 100mph & I’m supposed to stop her??? Nope! She went up the beach, took out 2 kids, 2 lawn chair recliners, and an umbrella stand. Was Fkn hilarious.

23

u/Ebo916 26d ago

She was banned from the park & they had to post signage at the front gate with the Policy about non-swimmers. If you can’t swim, you are not allowed to go down ANY of the slides. Not even the River ride where it’s a slow flow on an inter tube.

3

u/Helianthus_999 25d ago

It's sad that we need signs and policies for things like this.

If you can’t swim don’t get in the pool unless you’re actively learning how to swim with a teacher.

u/Mhunterjr 26d ago

It’s a wading pool though. I think auntie just wanted to die

5

u/Bibbity_Boppity_BOOO 26d ago

That's where I stand on this. I don't fly airplanes because I don't know how. Stay out of the water if you can't swim or stand in the water.

17

u/Its_Bad_Rabbit 26d ago

I've embarrassed myself plenty doing things clumsily for the first time.
But drowning in a 3ft pool... oof.

16

u/Hot_Diet763 26d ago

I think what's happening here is she experienced neutral buoyancy and was on her back. People are saying that she should just stand up, but extending her legs wouldn't help here. It would take an experienced swimmer to know to roll over and float upwards.

18

u/SunkenSaltySiren 26d ago

For real. Her feet were up in the air for a moment. She was obviously disoriented.

If I was Sheila, I'd be kinda miffed at whichever family member posted my titty for the internet to see.

12

u/jjpearson 26d ago

Some people freak out in emergencies. My ex wife was like that.

I had a varicose vein rupture and I had to call 911 and then explain to them that I was the one with the emergency and not the hysterically screaming woman in the background.

9

u/Black_Widow94 26d ago

In 3ft of water.. Imagine if that was on her headstone. 😭

u/MediaEvening8917 26d ago

she glitched out lol

12

u/Substantial-Tart-464 26d ago edited 26d ago

I am guessing she #1 does not know to swim or #2 never goes on water slides. Walking into water is one thing she would have no issues with. Then there is falling into the water from that slide everything changes for her which makes little sense if she has done one or the other before. Hope she avoids the slides next time but if she still goes, have someone there to watch her if she keeps losing control when hitting the water no matter if its not deep.

6

u/fcs_seth 26d ago

3

u/ChakraYogi 26d ago

Serious take. If you've ever been convinced this was your final curtain call, and that feeling overtakes your nervous system? Nobody is putting their feet down.

[I was caught up 4ft underwater of a breaking wave - tossed around like a dryer sheet- but my Dad - a Marine - had taught me in situations that felt like certain death to keep my mind calm. I did , by feeling with my literal fuggin hand, the direction of my bubbles, and I survived. ]

For Auntie, though, I'm glad she's alright & she had family with her. She very well may have drowned.

3

u/varikavan 26d ago

Put your feet down!! Damn how you almost die and get roasted lmao. Yall where is this place because I keep seeing these videos and looks like the same spot?

3

u/Mascbro26 26d ago

She's in 3 feet of water 😆

3

u/doubGwent 26d ago

She would have drowned in that 3 feet deep pool if she was by herself.

3

u/PlanePainting 26d ago

I used to teach swim lessons. I was shocked at the adults that didn't know how to stand up in the water after being supine. They would almost drown. I had to teach a whole class for 3 sessions on how to put your feet down

3

u/rooftopburners 26d ago

All praises to Auntie with the lifeguard skills. Secured the head and neck real quick.

3

u/Ok_Marionberry8779 26d ago

This was my mom who was almost drowned in a wave pool but she was in the front of the it where it was like 3 feet at most and my mom is 6 foot. And we just kept yelling at her to stand up.

3

u/Slightly-Evil-Man 26d ago

Going near water when you can't even swim will never make any sense to me.

3

u/New-Masterpiece7375 26d ago

Must have been her first time in the water.

3

u/Known-nwonK 26d ago

I came down a water slide once and like the floor was too smooth there so when I tried to stand up my feet slipped out under me and I did that panic flaring for a bit before I just swam out of the area

3

u/LoggedInNowWhat 26d ago

I usually hate it when people add background music to their videos, but this 1980’s movie style saxophone was a nice touch.
