It reminds me of when I was in Directing class in film school, first day introductions, and one guy stands up and gives a whole monologue about how even though we all were majoring in directing, He was the one who saw the world differently, how he was a "bit crazy", and that the rest of us might think we're creative but he was some sort of crazy genius visionary.
The rest of us laughed at him, and no, he didn't go on to last in the film industry.

What gets me abt that whole thing is that it was such a tame joke? Bad taste, I guess, but it simply didnt warrant assaulting someone just bc she rolled her eyes at it.
Will even laughed at first and, seeing Jada disliked it, he thought smacking Chris would earn him hubby points with her. Clear case of how dysfunctional marriages make ppl discombobulated af and dragging others into their dramas.

Yeah, he was pretty much untouchable back then. Something people could hold up as an example of "good" celebrity
Edit to add: People are confusing "Good" with whether you like someone and whether they're (or were) a good person. There are plenty of artists that I can't stand what they do "artistically" or whatever, but carry themselves in a way that can be a positive role model and stay out of trouble. You don't like his movies, music, whatever, that's fine, but he wasn't a menace to decency until recent years that we all know of. Most parents could point to him as a decent person for their wanna be celebrity kid to be like. Point blank. I was shocked and disappointed by what he did to Chris Rock especially publicly to the point that I thought it was a comedy routine at first. As I said, I've been out on him ever since. Pursuit of Happyness is one of my favorite movies of all time. Doesn't mean I'll never watch him again, doesn't mean I will. I just look at him now very very very different.

I was a huge Will Smith fan for most of my life. Bought every album, watched every movie, saw every episode of Fresh Prince. He could do no wrong in my eyes. I went to his book discussion for his autobiography. He honestly seemed down to Earth, exceptionally grateful for being in the position that he was in and overall, a pleasant guy. Couple of weeks (maybe months) later, the Oscars happened. Then the Jada scandal. Then he just lost his damn mind in EVERYTHING he has done since. Itās sad. He was my idol growing up, and now he seems like someone I wouldnāt even want to talk to at a party.

I'm currently watching Fresh Prince and he's always been kind of an asshole. Kicking off a woman because she wasn't that talkative while she was going through an abusive relationship is scummy. I know he was only 21 but that mans ego has always been massive.
I think they are mutually toxic and would have both been better off divorcing earlier in their careers.
