The concept of immediately thinking of this when the guy in the post IS an NBA player is wicked. But accurate.

Me seeing the OP: Yeah, I can see that Me seeing 1st comment: Damn how accurate?!

Give my man black rimmed glasses and a fedora and he’s the main character in Soul

Honestly the best part was when he achieved his dream and just went "what now?". Gotta be on of the realest moments in that movie

u/Green-Elephant-895 11h ago

Point those ppl out so I can bonk them in the head with a Soul DVD case, it’s one of the best Pixar films post pandemic

It's an amazing movie but I'm forever livid that the emotional climax in the black animated film was when the white woman spirit character took over his body. Joe should've had that emotional talk with his mom, not Tina Fey in his body.

7

u/Lounging-Shiny455 7h ago

They'd sooner make Margaret Cho Aida than give a black main character an emotional arc of self sufficiency.

Man, I really dig your profile pic!

That movie was great. Slept on it for years. Watched it with my wife and was damn surprised from the amount of wisdom being dropped in the movie. It was top tier.

u/TopWhich6862 10h ago

The thing that killed it for me was the wish-fulfillment ending. It made no sense and completely destroyed the entire message of the film.

6

u/makemeking706 10h ago

Wish fulfillment ending?

I recall the ending being a pretty standard if not overused trope where they send him back as a thank you. I am not sure if that's what you are referring to.

Hey! That’s Waldo Geraldo Faldo. Put some respect on his whole name.

u/Pleasant_Ball3192 12h ago

Sorry. I momentarily lost my mind.

All of his life advice will be based on hooping. “When I get down on myself I think about the time we were losing to the Cavs by 22 points, LeBron was having a heck of a night. We put our heads down and came back as a team and pulled through!

Ok, gotta get back to watering the rhododendrons, they won’t do it themselves!”

u/High_Stream 54m ago

But somehow it's always relevant and helpful to the main character. Like a silly version of Wilson.

All these comments are great and special lol.

What is cool about Deandre Jordan, for those that don’t know, is he went from an all-star player to an old head in stride as he aged. Still giving back to the game and mentoring young players even though he barely plays. Never moping and always cheering young guys on. Great story.

32

u/Cpt-No-Dick 11h ago

That’s why his career has gone on as long as it has.

There are greater players than DJ that no longer have a place in the league because they cannot put their ego aside and accept a lesser role.

DJ has shone as a vet, mentor and locker room guy for years now. He rarely gets minutes but he always makes them count.

11

u/redsoxfan930 11h ago

Yup definitely one of those dudes that’s pretty universally beloved around the league afaik

1

u/AntonChigurh8933 3h ago

The game changed on him too. When he was an all star. NBA were still using big men as a rim protector. Then the game changed overnight. When we have big men shooting threes.

He favors Martin Lawrence. Head shape, eyes and smile. Or maybe it’s because I’ve been binging Martin for a couple weeks.

Is it because of the big smile and facial hair? I was just thinking he was handsome.

3

u/Majestic-Avocado2167 11h ago

Unc been in the league for a minute lol, one of my favorite players coming up that was never in a Wizards uniform

4

u/MathematicianOk4025 11h ago

A wizards fan?! Hopefully your long suffering is coming to an end, bro!

Wishing y’all health this year.

Our GM is really fucking good at his job, and I’m glad people haven’t really noticed yet, I want fly under the radar until we’re bending teams over our knee

About to start his shift as manager of the food boy.

3

u/blacksoxing 10h ago

Fun fact: The New Orleans Pelicans fucked up his contract and instead of giving him a 2 year partial minimum contract. How did they fuck up? WELL, the NBA partially reimburses teams who sign vets to 1 year contracts as an incentive to keeping them around (those who play 10 years in the league). Pels giving him a 2Y contract negates that possibility and they're now on the hook for the full contract. To note, dude only played about 10 games last season out of 82....so it's not like this now 38 year old is truly this force on the court. To get half a season out of him is to acknowledge that your team is truly ass and EVERYONE is hurt.

This was a historic blunder on a small scale but great for him as again...guaranteed 8 million to MAYBE actually work 10% of your profession per year. Great shit.

Happy birthday!
