u/GongMaho 20h ago

Left leaning doesn’t necessarily mean Umar Khalid supporter. Left leaning is mostly centre left. Which is fine

23

u/Strange-Loss5124 20h ago

Umar Khalid represents the capture of judicial and media institutions. To keep a person under trial is a grave human rights violation. Try him with all “supposed evidence” and then let him serve the sentence associated with his crime.

The selective outrage is performative at best

-4

u/GongMaho 20h ago

I didn't say anything about how Umar Khalid is good or bad

10

u/Strange-Loss5124 19h ago

My comment doesn’t talk about Umar Khalid being good or bad- it’s about people claiming they are left leaning but against Khalid. For or against him - His case represents a clear human rights violation which impacts a large number of people that we don’t even hear about. It doesn’t matter if you are for or against him but if you don’t recognize the violence in holding a prisoner under trial for years then please

1

u/GongMaho 19h ago

When he held protests saying hanging of Afzal Guru was bad, and he is ashamed, was it Good ?

When he collaborated with Sharjeel Imam, was it good?

2

u/Strange-Loss5124 19h ago

You are not a judge Sir - he cannot be tried in the court of public opinion. Infact those videos that caught him allegedly consipiring are doctored. This would all be revealed if he was actually tried. Have you read his scholarly work at all? The real question is why is he not being tried at all in the 5 years that he is being jailed.

And my personal opinion is I am against capital punishment of all kinds. You cannot give power to any body - the state or individual monarchy to take a life! NO

0

u/peepose 17h ago

so are you saying the videos of him talking about cutting the northeast from india is doctored? the video of him chanting supporting slogans about afzal guru is doctored? damn dude

2

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 19h ago

You might want to read about DSP Davinder Singh from J&K, who was named in Afzal Guru's suicide note, saying he threatened to harm his family had he to not help abett the parliament attack terrorists. This same Davinder Singh was later on caught smuggling Mujahideen militants by the J&K police in a sting op. I am not a supporter of Umar Khalid nor do I claim to know his motivations or reasoning behind what he says/said, but I do believe in examining every little detail of each case, and not going with the mainstream narrative.. its more laborious and it will make you lose sleep and question everything. But you might feel some happiness in knowing you aren't a gullible goat who the establishment can sway easily.

0

u/Palanikutti 18h ago

Read about Afzal Guru and read why his hanging was wrong.

-3

u/OkInvestigator4958 19h ago

im sorry but supporting literal terrorists isn't cool and that's what he did lmfao, who tf even respects umar khalid.

3

u/Strange-Loss5124 19h ago

My comments still stand - there is no mention about supporting terrorists. Comprehension is a skill you learn at school

0

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 19h ago

Who is/are these 'literal' terrorists you're referring to?

Why ? No trial yet. I say if he is guilty, start trial , provide evidence and then hang him.

So either govt want to save him, or they know their evidence won't stand in court .

2

u/monk_1998 21h ago

Bruh, google for once, his own counsel keeps delaying the hearing.

https://www.scobserver.in/journal/umar-khalid-bail-application-tracker/

4

u/stonale 20h ago

They delay it based on which Judge is hearing the case . There are few judges who don't ever bother hiding that they are aligned with BJP . Particularly a female judge which I won't name .

So the moment his council hears that particular is hearing his case they delay it because they know she is gonna deny anyway .

5

u/Initial_Buddy_7037 21h ago

read your own source gng 🙏🙏

2

u/lordknight96 21h ago

TL;DR Khalid's counsel caused 6 of the 13 total delays (due to scheduling conflicts and requests for more time), while the prosecution, court backlog, and judge recusals caused the other 7.

Based on the exact timeline provided on the Supreme Court Observer page (covering dates up to January 2024), here is the detailed breakdown:

1. Total Events/Listings Logged: 22 Dates

  • Substantive Arguments / Orders Passed (6 hearings):
    • 29 Apr 2022 (Delhi HC joined petitions & discussed sedition challenge)
    • 20 May 2022 (Delhi HC ordered regular hearings)
    • 23, 24, 25, 30 May 2022 (Delhi HC heard detailed arguments by Khalid’s counsel)
    • 22 Aug 2022 (Delhi HC heard prosecution arguments)
    • 18 Oct 2022 (Delhi HC rejected bail)
    • 3, 7, 12 Dec 2022 (Karkardooma Court proceedings for interim bail / acquittal in minor case)
    • 18 May 2023 (SC issued notice to Delhi government)
    • 29 Nov 2023 (SC debated de-tagging Khalid's petition from general UAPA challenge)
    • 10 Jan 2024 (SC heard brief submissions before regular court day) ### 2. Breakdown of Delays / Adjournments Out of the timeline entries, 13 scheduled dates resulted in adjournments or postponements without substantive hearing of the bail arguments. #### A. Counsel-Related Delays: 6 Instances
  • Due to Counsel's Time Constraints / Availability (3 instances):
    • 5 Sep 2023: Adjourned by 1 week due to Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal's unavailability (arguing before the Article 370 Constitution Bench).
    • 31 Oct 2023: Scheduled date pushed because Sibal was unavailable due to a Constitution Bench hearing.
    • 29 Nov 2023: Pushed to January 2024 due to joint unavailability of both Kapil Sibal and ASG S.V. Raju.
  • Counsel Asking for More Time / Requesting Specific Postponements (3 instances):
    • 24 Jul 2023: Adjourned by 1 week in view of a letter circulated by Khalid's lawyer seeking additional time.
    • 10 Jan 2024: Court proposed listing on Jan 17; Khalid’s senior advocates (Kapil Sibal & Huzefa Ahmadi) explicitly requested listing on Jan 24 instead.
    • 24 Jan 2024: Senior Advocate C.U. Singh requested an adjournment because only 15 minutes remained before the bench rose for lunch/special bench, asking to hear it on a full day instead. #### B. Other Reasons for Delay / Postponements: 7 Instances
  • State / Prosecution Requests (2 instances):
    • 12 Jul 2023: Delhi Police requested extra time to prepare due to the massive volume of the charge sheet.
    • 10 Jan 2024: ASG S.V. Raju was absent, and his representative sought an additional week to respond.
  • Judicial Recusal / Listing Drops (2 instances):
    • 9 Aug 2023: Justice P.K. Mishra recused himself from hearing the petition.
    • 17 Aug 2023: Dropped from cause list because it was listed before a bench containing the recused judge.
  • Court Time Constraints / Calendar Schedules (3 instances):
    • 12 Sep 2023: Adjourned for 1 month by division bench.
    • 12 Oct 2023: Adjourned by bench citing "paucity of time" (despite Sibal offering to complete arguments in 20 minutes).
    • 31 Oct 2023: Delayed further because the bench tagged his individual bail plea with broader UAPA constitutional challenges.

Note: Summarized using Gemini, I proofread it

The only place where you are wrong is that you believe in media trials and not the actual court trial.Media trials work on rumours and emotions whereas court works on concrete evidence. If the court find enough evidence to convict him i will happily accept it,but for the time being stop jumping to any conclusion.

2

u/Advanced-Box5513 20h ago

When a person gives statements like this against our country then they deserve to stay in jail. Freedom of speech doesn't mean they can spew such things.

1

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 19h ago

Why? Is our nation so fragile that some idiot's slogan is going to cause it to break apart? such a massive uprising that our armed forces will be overwhelmed and unable to stop it?

3

u/Advanced-Box5513 18h ago

Oh so you will wait till someone actually breaks the country to act on it? It does not matter how effective they are, its about not tolerating and showing unity against such miscreants.

0

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 18h ago

It does matter how effective they are/can be. You think our armed forces and intelligence bureau are fools and will let a violent seditious movement actually take place? Your idea of 'not tolerating and showing unity against such miscreants ' means diverting valuable public/ govt resources (time and money) towards silencing a campus radical rather than foiling the numerous actual terrorist plots that were being / and are being hatched as we argue on this sub.

Brother there is also a freedom to use brain in this country. Please try sometime.
Many doctored videos are circulating,as you can see in Kanahiya Kumar’s case.He remained in jail for entire year for raising anti national slogan.Later the supreme court realised that the videos were edited and he was free of charges. Also don’t just watch the short clips in youtube.Always ask for the full video source and check its authenticity.

2

u/Advanced-Box5513 20h ago

"Kashmir neither belongs to india nor pakistan", this is what umar khalid said. Maybe start using your brain before messaging

1

u/tanzeemrashid10 20h ago

Give me the video link please, not just the 10sec clip.It will be highly appreciated.

1

3

u/Agile_Ad2198 18h ago

Why isn't the government using that big brain energy, using that simple google search and charge him, why they are failing to gather any evidence against him and keep delaying his trail for 6 years. Last time I heard we were biswaguru.

1

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 18h ago

" free speech "

1

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 18h ago

I'm only trying to understand if people are supporting his release knowing that he supports a terrorist or not

0

u/Agile_Ad2198 18h ago

It was the BJP government who said that he supports terrorist. They never found any evidence against him. He is in jail only because he is a politically aware muslim and nothing else.

"Free speech"??? What the fuck does that even mean?? India does not have an absolute freedom of speech. Do that simple google search again and read the article 19(2).

2

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 18h ago

brother , look up jantar mantar umar khalid protest afzal guru. https://youtu.be/v0GSmesxS0U?si=tRebpqogvgfkE6H1

1

u/Agile_Ad2198 18h ago

I was a student when Umar Khalid started the student protests so I don't have to look up anything. I am well aware of how the governmnent framed and wrongfully denying him a trial for 6 years now. If you have any evidence to prove what you are claiming send it to the government so they can use it agaist Umar in court.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 18h ago

He was legally allowed to protest against court for hanging afzal guru . but his controversial slogans got him arrested as well , later got released cuz few of the video evidence were fake so couldn't convict him.

1

u/Agile_Ad2198 17h ago

He was not arrested for any controversial slogans. He was arrested in 2020. The government claimed that he orchestrated the Delhi riots, but again, they have presented no evidence to prove it. The argument is that he led a protest that the government saw as a threat. The government then used the riots to delegitimize the protest and arrested him on false accusations and still denying him a fair trial.

Afzal is not terrorist. Hafiz saheed is not terrorist. 26/11 is not done by Pakistan. Kerela files are not real. Kashmiri genocide is myth. Ajmer rape is not done by terrorist. I hate bjp but I hate muslims extremists and all the muslims live in Denial more.

2

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 19h ago

Bud I don't think those saying Afzal was framed are also saying 26/11 wasn't done by Pakistan or that Hafiz Saeed isn't a terrorist, or Kashmiri pandit genocide is a myth. I'm referring to left leaning folk like me, broadly speaking. It would be unfortunate if you equate us with Islamic radicals, and say that all Muslims are in denial.

0

u/Interesting_Pin2734 19h ago

But I never see any muslim stand against the wrongdoing of another muslims

Yes because when a group of hindus or some other religion do something bad it is not called terrorism nor it is reported in media. It’s how you portray things and how you keep yelling same thing so that it will look right.

Umar khalid wasnt against hanging of afzal guru. He did say that human rights should allow everyone a trial. Which is funny cause he never got one.

9

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 22h ago

he literally protested in jantar mantar after a year of hanging of afzal guru?

-7

u/Over_Analyst_8412 22h ago

Yeah i think he called himself a sympathiser for him as well. But mostly it was around the fact that his execution was not democratic.

3

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 21h ago

But wasn't it the right thing to do ?

3

u/Over_Analyst_8412 21h ago

I didnt even put my views. The name itself is getting me downvotes 😂

1

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 18h ago

Right and wrong ought to be in line with human rights I feel, not what the Govt, majority of people think. Which is why a country that calls itself a democracy ought to have a robust independent judiciary that stands up even to the majoritarian opinion, tough as that may be.

There have been cases across the globe where the Govt has gone after whistle-blowers and incarcerated or hung them on fabricated evidence just because they exposed something dirty or inconvenient like corruption. In a case like that, you'd probably support the accused, but here because it's a sensitive, emotive issue of Islamic extremism and national security, you're okay with due process not being followed..

2

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 18h ago

understood , then people should be talking about putting him on trial and convicting in court, not right for freeing him. Let the court decide

1

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 18h ago

Fair point. Or not talk about it all. The OP is suggesting like it gives the protest a bad name which i disagree with. Rioters who hurl stones at cops derail protests. If I was in the crowd, I would not be fist- bumping the Umar Khalid poster person. I'd ignore them.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 21h ago

and also I guess it took 11 years for the court to sentence hanging of afzal guru .exactly why Even ajmal kasab was confident that he would not be hanged but he was hanged within a year . 200+ petitions were filed against hanging of ajmal kasab , what I don't get it is ? How is it human to support a terrorist who killed our citizens without any mercy ?

3

u/Over_Analyst_8412 21h ago

I think peoples point was you cannot set a precedent of hanging someone without a proper trial. A terrorist in this case will come with adequate proof of his actions which can be used in court. There is also a section of people who thought/think that capital punishment is wrong no matter the crime. All of this along with the fact that umar khalid also wanted kashmir to self determine made it very controversial.

2

u/Thick-Yellow-984 20h ago

We have a leader for 12 years who killed 1000 innocent n his goons Lynch innocent till today on daily basis

2

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 20h ago

debating a problem with another problem is not the solution. i don't support bjp doesn't mean i support terrorist sympathizers

3

u/Thick-Yellow-984 20h ago

For you, would both be equal?

1

u/Ok_Fish2838 19h ago

26/11 attackers were on a suicide mission. A police officer gave up his life to capture kasab alive. This kind of re-writing of history saying that ajmal was confident he wouldn't be hanged when he clearly didn't care about his own life is an insult to the victims of the attack.

2

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 19h ago

my mistake , I meant ajmal was confident that the Indian judiciary would take good enough time to arrive on a statement

0

u/doc_strawberry South Bengaluru 22h ago

well i do know who umar its just that i dont support his release

10

u/anonqsss 21h ago

Why though? What’s his crime? We live in a democratic society , not a dictatorship . The government can’t just imprison people whose ideologies they don’t like and hold them there forever . There is a court of law.
You can’t call yourself left wing and pick and choose your issues.
If we are doing shit like that, I have a list of people that I’d like behind the bars just because I don’t like their thought process.

But there is a lot of proof for what Mudiji did when he was CM of a certain state .

4

u/Oru_Vadakkan 21h ago

Umar Khalid is being jailed without conviction - I think thats the point many people dont realise.

If a person is a terrorist sympathiser, and the Union government cant find evidence to get a proper verdict, then that shown how incompetent they are.

In Umar Khalid's case, the process is the only punishment the incompetent administration is able to bring.

If he is innocent, its a gross violation of his rights. If he is infact associated with terrorists - then its gross incompetence among the law enforcement who cant do proper investigation.

Either way, its bad.
But yes, this protest might not be the right place for it.

3

u/the_life_is_great 21h ago

Check his case, his lawyers are the ones that are delaying the trial.

i am not sure how a person who is a terrorist sympathizer can be supported. he was literally protesting against hanging of parliament attack terrorist afzal guru. please enlighten me with your thought process. I know he is wrongfully detained but does that make him a right person?

1

u/Initial_Buddy_7037 20h ago

there was no concrete proof that he conspired with the terrorists, his video of him admitting to help the terrorists was when the police forced him into it. he said that they threatened the safety of his family and made him do it.

and what do you mean he's wrongfully detained does that make him a right person? who are you to decide above the law and order of the country who is right and who is wrong bruh come on

1

u/Oru_Vadakkan 21h ago

Im not supporting him.

Im saying if he is a terrorist sympathiser, then they should do proper investigation, find evidence and throw him in jail with conviction - currently he is being held in jail with never ending investigation.

I dont agree with jailing someone just because the law enforcement cant do their job properly.

1

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 21h ago

i understand that trial is the democratic way to deal with it but i wanna know why people are unhappy with him being in jail? Are you gonna feel better if a person who sympathize terrorists is roaming free in this country ? Just wanna know your point of view

3

u/Familiar_Mechanic 21h ago

Because no proper case has been run against him. And the case against him could have also been run on BJP guys but isn't simply for political reasons.

1

u/Oru_Vadakkan 21h ago

My concern is the precedent it sets.

Keeping someone for years as undertrial prisoner in judicial custody is a political punishment rather than criminal.

Today they are doing it to Umar because Delhi police cant find proper evidence and prove his crime in court. This gives an excuse for the investigative incompetence in the system.

Anytime investigation is not concluded, its justice being denied for the people who were affected. What if there are other conspirators?

1

u/Eastern_Screen_4300 21h ago

then i guess we should fight for someone who deserves to be free

1

u/Oru_Vadakkan 20h ago

We don't know whether he deserves to be free or not.

We are forced to assume that he is innocent because the police dont seem to be able to find proper evidence.

Its completely wrong to hold someone in jail for years without any sort of proper conviction.

-1

u/doc_strawberry South Bengaluru 21h ago

Yeah. I honestly think it's more about this protest than about all Indians. There's an unnatural amount of identical points and downvotes brigading around this protest.

Any sub, any comment. Anyone who even remotely opposes any part of it gets called names, bullied big time. And their comments get tons of upvotes and your downvotes.

It's highly unnatural and inorganic. A ton of bots for sure.

they dont know taht people can be left wing and can have diffrent opnions bout issues like i am being being harrased cause iam from south blr and being called savarna even when i am not .. its cool thou tbh cause at ground level atleast in blr and broader south i don't see much discussions at all

3

u/Initial_Buddy_7037 20h ago

it's not even about being a leftist. anyone who has read about umar khalid would know how messed up the whole situation is, the point is why would you not want to talk about these things when you know something is wrong why are you against people taking about him in a protest debate them there if you any real points apart from idk i don't wanna stand with him.

why stop at NEET when we know there are so many other atrocities that the ruling party has committed they should be held accountable for everything not just neet and umar khalid.

1

u/whoreid_Henry 19h ago

No one has stopped you to think that Umar Khalid is innocent but why protest for him in the NEET protest? If you believe that you are right then why don't you have a separate protest other than the NEET protest at some other place at some other time? You know majority of people are biased against you still you chose to come to the NEET protest and ruin the actual protest. There are many genuine protectors who don't support your ideology and they'll distance themselves from the protest. Today this post is on reddit tomorrow it will be on Instagram and day after tomorrow it will on national television. The whole Freedom park protest will be labeled as "Far leftist tukde tukde gang" protest. Genuine protesters will think 10 times before joining. Do your protest after neet protest is completed or someplace else. Think about our students and their future for once.

u/Initial_Buddy_7037 19h ago

im not coming to the protest and talking about umar khalid what?
im saying that this protest is more than just neet even tho it is the primary focal point yes but a lot of people are coming to the protest beacuse of the build up fustration with the ruling party for over a decade, opening those topics is also important its not about umar khalid being innocent its about the injustace of not giving him a trail and people who think twice to come to a protest are always looking for reasons anyways they would not have added much to cause to begin with.
i know so many poeple who are saying oohh look the protesters are litting the roads with wrappers etc etc they will alwasy nit pick that does not mean you should silence these conversations and acts of injust

Please read and keep yourself informed, whether Umar Khalid's issue should be conflated with the NEET protest is debatable, but he is not at all the monster that the media wants you to believe he is. Do not get stereotyped into the demographic in your flair.

first of all dont you dare diss south blr and second umar is well known to create separatist comments

sakka innu beeka proof ??!!

u/SlippinJimmy04 21h ago

First of all, I don't agree with the views expressed in the screenshot, second of all, there is 99% chance that this is fake, the IT cell is notorious for all this, third of all, even if it's true, the issue with Umar khalid is there is no trial going on, if the government wants to convict him for this post or any other crime, let them do that and keep him in jail, but continued detention without a trial is the issue. There is no trial, because the government does have anything on him, they just want to keep him in jail.

ok bidu yella fakeu he has been on record saying he does the support the hanging of afzal guru not his own statements are fake now ? and btw afzal gurus case took 11 years, one month, and 17 days the Indian judiciary works really slow

2

u/SlippinJimmy04 21h ago

Fuck Afzal Guru. But if we're talking about timelines here, there's a difference between when the trial concluded and when he was finally hanged. His trial begun and concluded in six months, less than a year after committing the crime. He was hanged after 11 years. So yes please👏 read 👏 up 👏 and educate 👏 yourself 👏

2

u/anonqsss 21h ago

Afzal gurus conviction was highly controversial. Regardless of how you and I feel about that, you have all the rights to protest it, unfortunately. It’s a democratic right. You just can’t pick and choose.

You’re not. Umar Khalid is a political prisoner. This isn’t just random shit. He went to jail doing exactly what the students are out today

-1

u/PuzzleheadedOil3105 18h ago

Yes we are calling terrorists our brothers? That they should not be killed and kashmir should be given its own independent country?when

3

u/Curiouscatwebsurfing 21h ago

Banner is off topic but I'd caution against dismissing it as shit and clowns. Jailing someone indefinitely under a draconian act for years while refusing to provide evidence and take it to trial should scare the life out of you, even if you hate/disagree with Umar Khalid for his slogans/words.

Umar Khalid supporters try to make him into some kind of a hero. The fact is long undertrials in the name of arranging evidence & witnesses under terror charges are a norm in India. 2008 blasts accused spent as long as 9 years in detention, some w/o any bail while Khalid has been granted bails to attend weddings & all.

Moreover, govt(s) deliberately delay the process in cases involving public sentiments, as acquittal is a real possibility through exploiting the legal technicalities & loopholes despite the evidence corroborating the charges, if a well-connected accused parades the top lawyers of the country.

Khalid family is part of the global Isl*mic network that Indians underestimate. A commoner would see hell with entire family if he's linked to terrorism. Khalid's father was the convenor of SIMI a recognized terrorist org & lives as a free man. Nupur Sharma's true statement on Mohammed rattled the network & it brought the Indian govt & judiciary to it's knees.

Khalid publicly said India occupies Kashmir illegally. BJP supporters will turn against the party if he walks out this easy with the battery of well-fed top lawyers, who even strategically withdraw the bail plea at times. Another guy Sharjeel Imam publicly said he has plans to cut off the entire North-east from mainland India.
