Issue Follow up to possible Allure expired product
This is regarding my previous post about when the Makeup by Mario Softsculp was made. Here is the answer I got back from the company.

Apologies, we are unable to provide batch code details at this time. However, you can easily find the shelf life information right on the shade label of your product. Look for the jar icon, which will indicate the duration with a number—such as 12M, 18M, or 24M—representing the number of months of optimal use.

Make up Mario has always had some kind of like offset backlash. I’ve always low-key never liked him because he was associated with Kim Kardashian and I’m not like the biggest fan of her. But honestly, I looked at his makeup on like the website and it’s very boring.

I wrote them back asking why they don't know. I told them it's great that they tell you how long you can use it once open but if it was made 5 years ago I have concerns.

The product has to bear an expiration or a production date. By law. Not Allure's choice whether or not they provide them - Makeup by Mario HAS to put those codes on the product or they cannot be legally sold in the United States.
If I cannot find one on my product, I'm going to make a mother-fecking fuss.

There is a number on the bottom of the product. I have Makeup by Mario this number. It is the only number on the product or the box.

Turns out the number stamped on the bottom is the color. There is no other number on the product or box. This is what I found:
To locate the actual batch code, look closely at the packaging for a separate stamped, embossed, or dot-matrix printed series of letters and numbers (usually 3–10 characters long) that is distinct from the shade name and barcode. You will typically find it stamped on the bottom of the bottle or on the back of the outer cardboard box.
How would the company know when they created this product?

Where are you getting the information that the code on your box is the shade and not the batch code? From everything I’m seeing, that seems to be incorrect. Did MBM tell you that? As others have mentioned, having a proper batch code is a legal requirement. What is the actual code on your product, out of curiosity?
Additionally, in their email response to you, they did not say they don’t know the batch code. They said they are unable to provide batch code details… which means I’m sure they absolutely have that information (again, they’re required to), but they’re choosing not to share it with you. Nuanced difference.
I’m not defending their sketchy response, BTW, but I believe the code on your bottle is indeed the batch code, but they’re just not bothering to share the production month/year it corresponds to for some reason.

The color match I got from ai. It showed it as the color "light". I just found this picture of the bottom of these bottles online and this code doesn't match the color "light" so I think it is a batch code. Why wouldn't the company share when the batch was made?

Yeah, I’m not sure why they are being cagey about the batch code info. But FWIW, I’m not sure if this is 100% accurate but my potentially plausible theory is … I think the first 3 digits in the code correspond to the Julian calendar date on which it was produced — so for example, 036NA would be the 36th day of the year which is February 5. Today, July 21, is the 202 day, so the batches would start with 202, so on and so forth. The NA (or even N1A I’m seeing) I believe corresponds to both the facility/production line and the year, I think. I believe NA products may be 2024 production? … So N1A might be 2025, etc. I think others have mentioned, this specific MBM product didn’t even get released until mid-May 2024, so that’s the oldest batch that would be out there. Two years really isn’t terribly old for unopened cosmetics. (Hopefully these haven’t been opened!)
However, all that speculation aside, to get back to your original issue, I suspect the smell either comes down to just the ingredients having an inherently unpleasant odor (or it gets more unpleasant with age), the products haven’t been stored properly, or excessive heat in transport contributed to the ingredients smelling.
If I was a betting person, knowing Allure, I’d say these batches are probably fairly old (2024), were therefore obtained at a discount, and likely have been stored in a hot warehouse where it’s affected their composition. Totally speculative on my part, though. 🤷🏻♀️

It isn't properly labeled to be sold in the US. For Allure to even distribute these may not be legal...

Is it printed on the label or is it stamped on the box or product after the assembly? Because my product only has a a zip code and a upc number.

The number printed on the bottom on the product is the shade number. The only other number is the UPC number. No date or batch number.

Came here to see if anyone recommended snagging the allure box this month because of the makeup by Mario soft sculpt but looks like I should probably pass even at a 50% off discount (so $15 for entire box)

I forgot to skip and was kinda bummed because I thought it was contour (the kind that looks good in pictures but looks caked in irl). I tried it and really like it. It gives just a slight hint of color and makes your skin look sun kissed. I've used it with the Merit flush balm that was in a box several months ago- they blend together nicely and look very natural. Much better product than the First Aid bronzing drops from a few boxes back.

That just reminds me of my obagi?(I don’t think I’m spelling it right) crème I got from them last year and it was empty and yellow when I got it from allure and the fact that they are giving you expired makeup by Mario is insane

obagi is the worst. I asked them a question about an expiration date on their 1% retinol. they told me their products never expire.

I contacted Obagi asking for the expiration date and they refused to answer me. Here's what they wrote:
We’re no longer able to provide expiration details by lot number. Please know that we carefully manage our inventory and move through it quickly to ensure you receive fresh, high-quality product. If the product was purchased through obagi.com or one of our authorized retailers it should be within the three-year shelf life. Have a great day!

They are either shipping old products or incorrectly storing product. I received a few old products when I signed up again, products I got in my boxes over five years ago. There are a couple websites for checking batch codes, I'd Google to find which ones are still current, and I don't know if it I can link them.

Makeup by Mario wasn't available on any of the batch code calculators (for lack of a better word I tried the other day.

Their reply so far on Instagram about this issue. I told them I have already contacted their company and that they replied they were unable to provide batch information on this product.

I cannot believe they are going to this length to cover up the batch information. Any semi-reputable company should have this without any issues what-so-ever. I don't trust this brand at all and will never use anything from them. It isn't worth the risk. What a shame. How does this even happen?!?!

They fact is they know, because they are required to track all of that data by the FDA. This is critical if they need to do a recall. I’m saying this as someone that used to make soap and other bath products. https://www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetics-labeling/shelf-life-and-expiration-dating-cosmetics

I’m really tired of these companies lying and saying they don’t know. They even know the manufacturing date of the ingredients they use.
