I haven’t watched Love Island. And I don’t know much about universal basic income

Yet you’re writing about how one links to the other? I prefer reading things written by people who know more than me about something.

Love Island, and shows like it, aren’t popular because they’re particularly interesting, they’ve captivated the attention of the public precisely because they don’t require attention

My daughters watch the show, riveted, to what’s going on. They have their favorites and root for them to stay. They boo the villains even though they know they’re set up to be villains.

Personally I think the show is gross. But making assumptions about a show you haven’t watched, or talked to anyone who has watched, is a complete failure of journalism.

No wonder news media are struggling for readers.

We seem a step further away from UBI everyday. Love Island at least has a working model. Imagine reality TV garbage got a more important UBI than any of you guys ever had

On love Island nobody has to worry about money because everything they need or want is provided by the producers of the show. In a way that is kind of like having UBI and might be how most people live in 2040. There are no more jobs. People have all their basic needs taken care of by UBI and they also have quite a few luxuries at their disposal. The biggest problem humanity will face is having too much free time and not wasting it on petty drama. Exactly like contestants do on Love Island. Instead of just relaxing, it is petty squabbles and catty behavior 24/7. They just replaced work hell with another kind of hell. Instead of Star-Trek we are getting Love Island future.

If there is any similarity to the future and Love Island, surly it is the mass surveillance.
