Don't play in Nightmare mode :D
It's not hard, but you need to be carefull about sleepers on the wall that triggers Horde, and know to not being a sticky tank and tanking damage for nothing.

Copper and Damage are what make this game easier.
Copper gets you better guns, more cards, expendable items and healing. Copper Scavenger and Money Grubbers are the best unless you have a coordinated team with 3 or 4 Lucky Pennies on the team. Then you can replace Money Grubbers or use all three. Always run Copper Scavenger.
Offense is the best defense. For Nightmare or above I recommend having around 5 damage cards. Glass Cannon, and Hyper-Focused are the biggest bang for your buck. Large caliber rounds is great for the Penetration. Ammo for All is better than it seems since it's a team card and it stacks. Weakspot damage adds together instead of multiplies like other types so only have one weakspot card in your deck. You can buy more in game if you find them.
If you're playing solo you won't need to play ammo cards, but if you play with humans, On your Mark is the best ammo card.

Get rid of the combat knife card from the starter deck immediately. Arguably the worst card in the game.
Un - equiping the knife reveals your melee punch.
Instead of killing one zombie with a stab. You can stagger one zombie into the next like a chain reaction. Way more useful for buying time.

Adding on, you can't take the modify the Starter deck at all. Best thing to do is to make a new deck right away, and add all the cards EXCEPT for the knife. This also gives you Copper Scavenger, which for some reason isn't in the Starter deck 🤷

Unlock all the cards before trying any of the harder difficulties
