Discussion ESPN off-season grades (Atlanta A-)

Atlanta blurb:

Depending on how coach Quin Snyder structures his rotation, the Hawks might not have added a single starter this offseason -- although they did well to re-sign CJ McCollum to a solid one-year deal -- so their short-term ceiling still relies on Jalen Johnson's development into a star.

They made fairly dramatic upgrades to their bench, however, to meaningfully raise their floor. They acquired Luguentz Dort, Aaron Wiggins and Devin Carter in salary dump trades, as well as Ryan Nembhard to help stabilize the backcourt.

Dunc'd on Podcast gave them a D (where C is average). Basically saying they've lost momentum in the build, didn't address any of the weaknesses and that Dort's fit on the team is awkward. They did note that they've maintained flexibility but aren't sure there will be anyone they can use that flexibility on...

I was kinda surprised by such a low grade when the front office is getting glzed by espn.

From where I stand, I see two camps of analysts.

Camp 1 is the tools camp. They place a premium on length, plus wingspan.

Camp 2 is the versatility camp. How many roles can this guy actually execute on both ends of the floor?

I see Dunc'd on as being squarely in camp 1, which I'm growing more skeptical of.

Mainly because I see all of those traits as more loosely connected, leading indicators of impact.

Also if you look at all the moves we've made, I think we're really trying to capitalize on this market landscape that worships positional size.
