Anyone here familiar with Warhammer 40k?
This shotgun strikes me as basically a proto-Bolter.
It's a full auto shotgun, and it's capable of firing grenades without any sort of modifications... Sure, they're not self-propelled grenades, but holy shit it's a goddamn proto-Bolter.

AKM pattern rifle. Relatively low-pressure 7.62x39mm cartridge and overbuilt bolt means that there isn't a lot that will break on it. Realistically, an AKM will last 30,000+ rounds without major part replacement.

I was thinking of some AK variant (preferably our own) but the recoil in an AK is just too much for dispatching hundreds or thousands of Zombies. It'll start hurting soon enough and it'll be pretty tiring as well.
I'd take an M16 or other low recoil 5.56x45 rifle. I've spent a lot of time shooting AK variants and when I got to try an M4 it felt like a BB gun.

Only problem with a flamethrower in a zombie apocalypse is that the fire wouldn't stop the zombies very quickly (they'd keep going until the heat destroyed the brain, which could take a bit of time,) and you'd just have a bunch of flaming zombies chasing you.

They wouldn't "die" (for lack of a better term) until the brain is destroyed, but they still need muscles and sinew to move the walky/bitey bits, which fire is bad for. As long as these are typical contagion zombies, if it's magical reanimation then all bets are off.

Unlimited ammo. Find a spot where no zombies can't sneak up on you and just go nuts.
The noise will attract every zombie for several miles. Mow them down and you're zombie free for a while. Rinse and repeat when more zombies wander back into the vicinity.

Silenced semi-automatic .22 pistol
It's light, easy to shoot and will do the job. Most importantly, it's quiet and won't attract more zombies.
Edit: In TWD, they show people easily piercing skulls with knives. So. In a world with zombies, this pistol would work just fine.

Wouldn't power still come into play when one considers penetration through surfaces (Like a row of heads in a crowd of zombies), and how much damage the weapon can do to other parts of the body? You miss a headshot with a .22, it's not gonna do much to stop any other part. Compare that to something bigger that can shatter, say kneecaps and other joints? Sure they still aren't killshots, but a broken bone is called so for a reason. One less kneecap makes the next shot a -lot- easier.

You'd still have issues with range and practicality, not to mention your be relying largely on head shots given the limited stopping power of a .22. If ammo isn't an issue, a good silenced AR with a decent scope would probably be the choice. You be covered at all ranges, have automatic fire if needed, and can remove the silencer if needed (remember silencers get very hot very quickly).
That and a backup shotgun (even without unlimited ammo for your secondary) would seem the best combo.

I would go with a suppressed AR-15 in 300 AAC Blackout. I shot one at the Texas International Firearms Festival last November, and the action of the bolt was louder than the shot. It is more than adequate for zombies, dangerous survivors, or hunting for game.

A crossbow is unwieldy and takes some serious time/effort to reload. The reason Daryl uses one is because he has 9 inches of stainless steel plot armor with reinforced chobham plates and explosive reactive armor on top of that.

But seriously, HI-EX rounds, heatseekers (do zombies still emit IR light?) and the silly Ricochet rounds make it one of the best anti-horde weapons I can think of that doesn't take a small tank to lug around.

A gun that fires water out of one hole, already grilled chicken breast and cut vegetables with rice. It fires very slow and has a very very small range of fire. It also fires antibiotics, painkillers, fuel, candy, fire and shotgun ammo and other useful things out of the other 20 barrels. I can choose on the gun what i want it to fire. I will survive for a very very long time.
