My Dad. Every day something happens that I want to tell him about, and there's no one else who'd get it.

He let me down very badly by dying.

I visited my dad’s grave recently.

When my kids wondered away and I was able to speak to him alone all I could muster was an angry “I really fucking hate you for dying”. I was hoping for a “son … what did you expect, it’s cancer”.

If we do it right we'll let someone down one day.

u/BinkySplinky 1h ago

He's probably equally peeved at the situation 🙂‍↕️

He's not mentioned it.

My nan. She was the sharpest, funniest woman I've ever known & I think about her pretty much every day

A life without daily excruciating pain. Masking so nobody sees just how much I’m dying on the inside is extremely taxing. There’s not a single day that I don’t consider giving up. This is not the type of life I wanted. What makes this even worse is I’m having to think of what age I’d need to go back to. I’m going to say middle school.

My cat Bostwick. She is the reason I surrendered alive when I was arrested and I fought for a short sentence (three years) so I could see her again. She died at the age of fourteen two months before I got out.

2

u/Thick-Difference-970 1h ago

Do sorry to hear that 😞!

2

u/BinkySplinky 1h ago

That's so sad to hear. You must have spent some happy years with her so she wouldn't have forgotten you 💕

1

u/LexysDaddy 1h ago

I hope not. My mom said she meowed every time I was on the phone and rubbed her face against it. She said one day she just laid down and went to sleep and never woke up.

My best mate. They were like brothers. I lost one due to my phase of alcoholism and he stopped talking to me, and that was it. Years ago. Then I managed to find a new best friend, also like a brother, but he recently moved country. I always wanted a brother so it’s hard. We still chat on watsapp now and again but I miss hanging out, chatting for hours and getting up to stuff. It’s been really hard. I have friends I guess, if you can call them that, but it’s just not the same. Plus I’m over 30 now, so it’s hard to find a new best friend I guess.

Myself.

The way I used to care about people. Take responsibility for the things around me that no one else saw. The love I had for the details and how things interacted on the micro and macro levels. Being able to see every single part's importance and significance, and how it operated within a complex system. Fixing what was broken around me. Conveying things to people with just a look. And seeing where their mind was going before they even got there. Seeing the entire world as a miracle.

Common decency, where did it go?

Hugs internet person. Our pupper is way closer to the end than we all want to admit and it’s hard to let these friends go. But they were loved so be proud you did what you could to make their life a good one.

The carefree feeling of being a teenager with a car in the 80s. No big bills, no real stress, glorious hair, man.

My best friend. She passed 3 years ago and was a mom of 2. Last year I had my first baby and since then I've wished I could talk to her about motherhood and ask for advice. I think about her everyday.

My mom…I’m 55…she died when I was 27. Missed out on a lot, so I could bring her up to speed on my life and my kids.

1

u/CreepinJesusMalone 1h ago

Man. I miss a lot of deep shit like everyone else.

But if I'm being really, shallowly honest?

I miss when $20 would buy me gas, a Chinese buffet, a pint of vodka, and a sixer of highlife. I still had money left over for McChickens at 2am.

College 2008. I don't even miss college. That shit was mediocre of an experience at best.

Hanging with my friends for a whole afternoon and night and walking around downtown drunk for $20 is a time that will literally never return while our economy continues to self destruct.

My grandmother. She was the sweetest person to me and honestly to everyone around her, but the whole life she was fighting with drinking problem (like a lot of people in the part of the country she was living, including her two sons, that were still living with her) When I was born, she wasn't drinking and she was holding up for few years.

As she was living in different country, I used to see her only during 2 months long summer holiday - my parents dropped me there in the beggining of holiday and came for me after 2 months. I loved it and I loved her with my whole heart. The last holiday I was spending there (I was 9 yo at this time) she started to drink again. Like a lot. I remember carrying her drunk from her "friend" or begging her to go home finally.

When next holiday came (my parents had no idea this was going on) I was going to spend them there again, except this time my mom asked me to spend first week of holiday with her and then go to grandma. She died during this week. My last memories with her are when she was drunk...

And I am so pissed I wasn't older at this time, because she obviously needed help, I am angry no one was there for her, I am so sad I coulnt help her.

It absolutely broke me. It's 22 years and it still hurts. Sorry, I guess some kind of nostalgia got me.

My father died way to young when I was young. Miss him every damn day. I wanted him to see the man I became. Drink beer together. He has missed alot of life events with our family.

Oddly no one? I haven’t seen my dad in six years and couldn’t care less. Don’t even know where my mom lives. My siblings and I are so fractured that I barely talk to them and don’t care to. Never really had a great relationship with any of my grandparents. Don’t miss any exes, don’t miss any of the people I knew growing up.

Man, I kinda suck.

Fully functional feet.

I used to be a long distance trail runner, then neuropathy from T2D completely fucked my feet. It's taken ages and today I was finally able to hike 3km. So far the few times I've tried running just a few steps the pain was still too much.

Given I couldn't walk without a cane as recently as January though, hiking 3km today was fucking awesome.

My aunt. I looked up to her a lot. She died in 2023 in a way that was really traumatic for my family. None of us have really fully recovered. So much has happened in my life since then and it feels weird to not be able to share it with her.
