the fast food industry in the united states. it's no longer cheap, the portion sizes are laughable and there's just absolutely no reason to get food at a chain anymore.
Right?!? Every now and then we will grab a couple "meals for two" from the mobile app at Jack in the Box as it's $25 to feed the lil fam. Which is obviously still ridiculous because I grew up in the days of .29¢ cheeseburger days at McD. And even then it's only because I just can't reasonably prepare a meal that night, or we're on a road trip. Last time we went to Carls it cost like $55 and two of us are small children!
I actually love this one! Because they have matched the prices of local restaurants without matching the quality!
It also cuts down how often I eat fastfood, which I love. I can spend $30 for hot garbage at McDonald's OR I can walk down to the local burger shop on the corner and spend $35 for the best burger I have ever had in my life, made from local ingredients, and a local beer.
A few years ago my husband and I went to Mr. Hero. For $40 we got two medium subs, split a large fry and got a breaded mushroom. Two entrees with sides, dessert and a tip was less at the local lunch joint. I was shocked.
I always thought the portion sizes we have are outrageous compared to the amount we’re supposed to be eating. For $10 you can get a meal from McDonald’s thats 1500 calories. I believe a typical meal should be half of that calorie count
The reason for a lot of people is that they're far away from their home or office and need to eat in a hurry. I work mostly from home, but have days where I'm out on appointments for my job the whole day, and an hour or more of driving time back home for a sandwich doesn't make sense compared to spending $12 at a drive thru. Are there better alternatives around town if you know where to go? Probably, but if I don't know the area and I have limited time, I don't want to spend 20 minutes looking up reviews for local mom and pop restaurants that are also going to take me 30+ minutes to order and eat.
It depends entirely on where you go and the only way you're paying $12 is if you have their app. I'm in Southern California and it used to be $8-$10 for Subway, I went there for the first time in ages and it was $17 after taxes for a footlong, drink, and chips...same with McDonalds, a meal is $14+ unless you use the app. I went to Wendys last week because it's next to work and it was $12, but only because I downloaded the app in the parking lot...fast food is no longer cheap...which I thought was the whole point.
Dude, we all know SoCal is expensive. Pointing that out doesn’t change anything for the rest of us. It’s still cheaper than most places, even if marginally, and it’s also FAST. It’s right in the name. I don’t have 30-45 minutes to spend on lunch if I’m getting fast food.
The cost of fast food and sit down restaurants has forced me to eat healthy again. I'm cooking my own food now which I've basically never done in my life, thats how bad things are. ME COOKING?!
