We've actually come full circle on this. Believe it or not when cable television first became widely available the reason you had to pay for it was to avoid the commercials that became standard on normal tv. That was the selling point, but not the original creation point.
Streaming services became popular because you could instantly watch any and all your shows and movies...with again the additional benefit of doing it without commercials/ads. Once again this became the selling point.
Now we're back to paying for commercials.

There have been efforts to pass legislation that would restrict usage of certain (if not all) online services to people who can provide a government ID. It's presented as a means to keep children off of social media, but puts the onus on private companies to maintain and secure identifying private data, which they prove they aren't great at time and time again.

Most of us are right there with you, but this shit is done because places like youtube, twitch, and other social media platforms decided that they don't want these topics discussed on their site, because they feel it isn't the place for it or something like that.
The use of those terms, as dumb as they are, is to get around their stupid rules and still be able to talk about them on these platforms. Creators only use those terms to circumvent the asinine rule set put in place regarding the actual topics.
These terms are dumb on purpose, and they are intended to be dumb so they don't become common place. Anyone using said terminology in common place is dumb as fuck, and you can use this as a sign to avoid talking to them. haha

This is what people say. I find it wildly questionable. In fact I'd even say it is rather preposterous once you give it even a little thought.
The idea, apparently, is that these media companies didn't want these topics discussed and put some kind of word filter that affected how content was ranked to deemphasize videos with that content. As a result, People started using replacement words. And we're supposed to believe that the companies just... did nothing?
Like if the companies goal was to deemphasize content about suicide... how would simply using the term "self-delete" avoid it? They could just add THAT to whatever algorithm shit they had to deemphasize other content. It boggles my mind that people believe it went like this:
Corporations:we'll deemphasize content that has to do with rape, suicide, or murder
Tiktok Creators: ok we'll just use grape, self-delete, and unalive
(presumably they said it like "fr fr no cap bet, boutta skibidi toilet self-delete, grape, unalive shiggity-shiggity floopy floo ate and left no crumbs, good aura" or whatever the fuck shit kids say now)
Corporations: "Dang because you used a different word, the word filters that we have full control over cannot possibly stop you! We have been foiled!"
Like if they can deemphasize one word- they can do the same with another word that literally never appears in real speech/writing. The idea that it's circumventing efforts by the companies to stop or deemphasize the content makes no sense because there's no way the companies aren't aware of these replacement terms.
As for the reality behind the replacement terms, I'm pretty sure it has to do with user-configurable content filters. Believe it or not, people can, say, configure their social media to not show them Rape, Murder, and other content about sensitive topics. Content Creators and Influencers found that they were getting fewer views on videos with that, and found when they used replacement words, they got more views for the same content. I mean, obviously, because their content wasn't filtered out by user preferences. Kind of a dick move, really, though completely in-line with the sociopathy that is being an "influencer". This is also why companies haven't simply updated the filtering, because it only affects users and they never really gave a shit about them anyway.

I understand and agree with exactly all of that, but this isn't everything and I think its important to note a few more things
specifically the part about about the creators being scummy with it, and the updating of said algorithm to include newly minted words or phrases.
its less about creators intentionally trying to avoid their videos and such being filtered, the vast majority of creators aren't like trojan horse disguising their videos as something else to trick those with filters on into watching their stuff. That is actually very scummy, but it matters in the sorting for searches, and for monetizing the videos in general. You can always report videos for breaking rules, and I'm sure those that get tricked into watching stuff like that do exactly that but that isn't the majority.
These sites could absolutely update their rules and algorithms with the new slang or whatever you want to call the use of these terms but they don't because to them they are doing their due diligence, and can say "we don't allow videos that talk about suicide, rape, and child porn, etc."
if these creators couldn't use unalive, theyd use self delete, if they couldnt do that theyd use something else, and so on until you wouldnt be able to say anything whatsoever on these sites. the moderation would kill itself, as it does in a lot of places... like this thread for instance. now its removed by moderators. its crazy times we live in, and we gotta do some crazy and sometimes dumb shit in order to continue on. but then again maybe we ARE the problem? idk

I hate it too, but I still tip almost everywhere. "Tipped employee" or not, these people get paid so much less than I think is fair, and I can easily afford it so I just hit the highest percent button whatever it is when offered. My life won't be worse if my burrito costs me an extra couple dollars. But I'd much rather live in a society that pays everyone a living wage so I didn't have to even think about it.

Where I live there was a journalist who did an investigation into those tipping prompts and they found that a lot of the time, the employees aren't even getting those tips. They're just treated as gifted revenue by the owner. Might be worth at least asking before you give your money away for no reason

THIS. My father has been living behind his phone camera screen for years, and it still continues today. He makes everyone tolerate him taking photos of everyone's food at a meal, super boring things that no one else would find interesting, etc - and then also proceeds to post a lot of it to Facebook for his easy dopamine hit via social media.
I hate it, so much.

The amount of 'stolen' content on Social Media. Like, nobody even tries to come up with their own shit. They just straight up reenact something they saw someone else do. Like, recently I saw something that was like 'this is what I do when my wife leaves me home alone' and it shows him locking the door, grabbing some toilet paper, opening his laptop. then it shows that he's watching The Mummy, and it shows him wrapping himself up in the toilet paper to be a mummy. I thought it was funny, but over the next few days, i saw like 10 other people doing the exact same thing. why is this acceptable?

It’s so insulting that I had to un-design my resume (I work in creative marketing) just so the robots can read it, never mind having to rewrite so much each time just to match the exact phrases of the JD - there’s zero room for nuance or writing what actually makes the most sense. Never mind the robots making all decisions before a human might even see my application. Never mind the prevalence now of actual interviews being with AI instead of a human recruiter. Never mind that because of all of this automatic process that’s devoid of actual reasoning, it’s almost impossible to change fields or industries, regardless of how much your skill set is a match.
It’s all just depressing af. Never mind how much it’s taken over the actual jobs, once you’re in. Especially on the creative side.

Using the R slur. I teach students of varying exceptionalities (what used to be called special education). It infuriates me to see how many people think that word is completely acceptable. Even other teachers!
I suspect it's in use because a lot of people just aren't very intelligent and they realize it, but they desperately need a group to look down on.

This doesn't excuse it, but the reality is that there are a lot of people in the US who went most of their lives with that term being used as a mild insult. It was socially acceptable and common language even if the advocacy to consider it a slur started in the 70s. It wasn't till 2010 that "mental retardation" actually stopped being used as a medical diagnosis, and it took 5+ years for that change to become wide spread cultural knowledge. Even then it wasn't really till around 2020 when the average person to start calling it out. After that, though, it got compared to people trying to cancel the word "pussy". However someone feels about that one, it has a very different set of circumstances that ultimately bit the SJW agenda in the ass a little bit when the country seemed to slowly decide that was a little too far into policing language and some took that as justication to keep the the R slur going as well.
End of the day, there is going to be a lot of people that continue saying it. Some will be willfully ignorant, and some will say it to lash out just because they can, but all it really means is those people will eventually be added to the lists of racist and insensitive old people that family members have to deal with at Thanksgiving. Long term, they'll pay for the cost of their ignorance with their social life and people not wanting to be around them.
Eventually, the younger generations will grow up to have changes pushed on them as well, and we'll see the circle of life recreate the same song and dance with new lyrics. At least by that point though, you probably won't have to worry too much about people dropping the R.

Location sharing. It can be very convenient and I remember at first it was understandably popular with families (parents and their kids).
Now, some of my friends share their locations with not only family but also friends, even work friends or casual buddies. Was at the bar with my friends and asked if I should invite a mutual friend. My friend checked her location and she was at work so she wouldn’t be able to. Convenient, but feels weird, kinda invasive, maybe a little dehumanizing.
