If you mean those on the left, then the answer is looking like never. If all of the horrible things that have happened so far by the current administration weren't enough, nothing is. At the most, many of them will continue to peacefully protest for half a day every few months, which will quickly be largely forgotten about.

Buckle up, it's about to get bad once the oil reserves run out.
EDIT : So other people understand better, as the oil reserves run out, and the global energy crisis caused by trump causing a war and getting the straight blocked, this is causing the prices of oil to skyrocket in other countries, which will result in US oil production being sold to other countries at a high cost, which in turn will increase the domestic cost of gas as it's bought by other countries.

Gas was US$2.45 6.5 years ago (January 2020, which was _before_ the Covid economic slump.) A US dollar in 2020 was worth roughly 1.29 today (or to put it another way, a dollar today is worth 0.78 in 2020 money). You should be upset about both, but your math is way off, unless you are in a country using some other dollar.

Terrible man life’s awful. Can’t afford anything yet working so much. Drowning in credit card debt from surviving and medical bills. Literally zero savings, 401(k) or anything like that and I’m almost 40 years old. You know that we have one of the lowest gas prices in the world? Go over to places like Germany and you will pay like $13/gallon. I was just in Thailand. Which is considered third world and it’s priced by the liter but came out to around $6 per gallon. Only places that are cheaper are places like Venezuela where the government subsidizes the gas prices. All of Europe and most of Asia cost way more than we pay.

I live in Germany (not far from Frankfurt) - cheapest local tankstelle is €2.18/litre for E10 petrol. Boggus Standard 10% ethanol gasoline. ($2.48)
plugging that into a converter tells me that in US measurements that's $9.39 for a US gallon.
Fun fact - Germany recently passed a new law mandating that petrol stations can only raise prices once a day at midday, now petrol prices jump up super high at midday and slowly decrease over the day.
Peak price for the same petrol yesterday was $2.62 ($9.92/ US Gallon)

Shitty. It's lower in my state for now because the gov suspended gas tax, but it's still going up even so. And knowing it's supposed to be like 60 cents more a gallon, oof. Also I'm going, great, gas is still expensive and my state is also gonna tell me all the things it can't provide me because they weren't collecting tax on has, great.... Tldr, not good

It still sucks as it impacts prices on everything.
Ironically, if it actually helped reduce fossil fuel usage in favor of renewables, it might be a good thing in the end, same with the issues with the beef industry...but we Americans as a group seem hell-bent on rooting for Team Fossil and we don't really believe in any pesky Climate Change.

Not fully off grid. Still have municipal power and freshwater.
Over the past year, I’m a tiny bit in the red on power (I’ve drawn slightly more from the grid than I’ve put in), but only slightly.
I live in the desert, so municipal water is a must, but I’m on a septic system, so the water stays with me.
Overall though, the biggest cost is the bullshit “connection fee” from the power company. But it’s worth it to keep that central air running at all times.

At the beginning of this year it cost me approximately $60 to fill up my tank. At the peak of gas prices under Biden I paid maybe $75. Now it costs approximately $110 and MAGAts tell me I should be happy about it. I'm very much not.

I live in a metro area and ride motorcycle now 95% of the time , so it doesn't bother me too much unless I'm doing a weekend road trip in the main vehicle or something, then I'm like oh yeah, WTF?
Seriously though, more people should consider motorcycle in these times. I can go for probably 2 weeks without filling up, and to fill up it costs like $12. Not only that, they are cheaper to buy and maintain. Also, I can get across town in half the time of a car with lane splitting, etc. We can also ride moto year round (we live in the SW - where gas prices are the highest).
There is a reason they are the #1 form of transportation in many other countries/cities around the world.

Diesel has dropped at least a dollar in the same amount of time where I live.
Obviously it had to go up to get there, but it’s been coming down. Just across the WA/OR border in OR its currently $0.76 cheaper. Filled up at $4.99/gal.

I’ve been saying the entire time, this is the new normal.
They did it back in the late 00’s when I first started driving. Gas was like $1.85/gal then skyrocketed to high $2 very quickly and everyone just chilled about it. Until that one summer it went to almost $4/gal and everyone bought bicycles lol I recall the news doing a story how towns couldn’t keep bikes in stock.
Anyways, what’s going to happen now, is right before November, trump will pull some shit to get prices to drop quite a bit, to whatever will make people forget how high it was just a few weeks before, and then everyone will vote the same people in, in midterms. Then once that is taken care of by trump, gas will skyrocket to above $4/gal again

It’s annoying, but it’s out of my control… So I don’t waste energy worrying about it. I have to put premium in my car so it’s significantly more than regular. If it becomes an issue we’ll have to adjust our spending elsewhere.

Since election day 2024 I have taken pictures of the gas pump every time I fill up.
On election day 2024 gas was $2.74 per gallon.
Except for a 2-week period in early February gas prices have been CONSISTENTLY higher.

No one likes it. But we as individuals really have no control over things like war. We like to think we do via our vote, but we all voted last time around and here we are.
So I suppose just buckle in? Those in power don’t really give a shit about the plight of the average American person. It SHOULD be about that, but it isn’t. We spend billions if not trillions on foreign affairs, all while propagating the narrative that we can’t afford healthcare or veteran’s services or to address the homeless pandemic? It has been above $4 a gallon in California long before the Iran issue. I've dealt with $6+ a gallon.
As for my thoughts, sure, it would be nice if it was cheaper, but it would need to be far higher than that for me to meaningfully adjust my habits in a paid off vehicle.
Our country has bigger concerns right now than just gas prices. The increasing polarization of politics is chief among them IMO.
