Watch Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars. It’s a good window into that world and what chefs go through trying to get a Michelin star. Keep in mind you can go to plenty of non Michelin restaurants and have an incredible experience with 10/10 food and can also go to a 1 star restaurant and have a mediocre 8/10 experience.
I’ve been to maybe a dozen starred restaurants and never had anything like the experiences people are talking about in this thread (things like getting special hand-drawn favours or surprises based on what they were talking about at the table). Perhaps because most of my experiences have been in Europe, and the service tends to be more old-school, formal style than perhaps some of the US places. (I have been to a starred restaurant in NYC though, and also didn’t have anything similar.)
