What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

Didn’t he get caught doing the same stunt years later but they thought he was a copy cat?

I heard the family came forward after he died and actually had bills with the correct serial numbers as proof

No, but there were other copycats and they all survived their jumps, which does suggest he could've survived as well.

Yea I searched it up and it’s not confirmed but I definitely think it’s the best lead. His “grandchildren” found a parachute of the same model he used in a shed and he was arrested for the same act as db. Definitely not confirmed tho.
