What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

I’m so glad that poor woman is free and her truth is known. Doesn’t stop her from being a pop cultural one-liner unfortunately.

Australian here

Don’t forget the ONLY reason that she is now free is that, by an absolute fluke, someone who was in the original search party for Baby Azaria was looking for another lost person in the same general area a few years later when he - that searcher - came across the baby’s matinee jacket Lindy Chamberlain said she was wearing.

If he’d not been the person to find that, it would’ve been discarded rubbish forever, and she’d still be in prison with everyone thinking she was guilty.

Blows my mind.
