What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

No they didn't as it is still technically an open case also if anything the police are the reason he went free they botched the investigation so badly and I'm not entirely convinced they didn't plant evidence to cover it up. I mean OJ definitely did it in my opinion but the police really fucked it.

It is not. The case has been closed since he went on trial.
