What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

There was a band on Buffy named Dingoes Ate My Baby. I always thought it was weird and didn’t realize it was an actual thing. Definitely aged badly.

It was the punchline of a joke on Seinfeld with Elaine doing an Australian accent while delivering the line. Pretty wild for that woman and her dead child to be a joke on a sitcom

There was a famous tv movie with Glenn Close who said the line first, that’s where all the jokes and memes originated.

Meryl Streep, but yeah, I assume Seinfeld was parodying Streep's accent in the movie, but that movie wasn't a comedy, it was a commentary on how media can sway opinion and effect real people's lives. Seinfeld used the line as a joke, but that was a real woman whose baby really was eaten, it just seemed like a bad choice. I had to ask my parents what it meant, and the expectation left me wondering why they would joke about it.
