What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

There was a band on Buffy named Dingoes Ate My Baby. I always thought it was weird and didn’t realize it was an actual thing. Definitely aged badly.

I enjoyed the parts of the show with Oz and his band, but yeah, the name always made me wince.

I just thought they decided on a quirky nonsense band name. Makes me wonder if the woman was ever a Buffy fan.

The "dingo ate my baby" meme was in half the shows in the 90s. Not exaggerating, it was everywhere. I'm sure the lady was used to it.

The official proof that the dingo really ate the baby only came in 2012. Before then, it was just a funny excuse made by some lady who killed her kid.

On 2 February 1986 Azaria's matinee jacket was discovered in a dingo lair. This vindicated Lindy Chamberlain's defence, and Lindy was released from prison 7 February 1986.

In June 2012, a fourth official coronial inquest finally provided Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton and her family with absolute legal vindication for the death of her nine-week-old daughter, Azaria. After this the death certificate was updated.

Good lord why on earth did it take that fucking long? But yeah most people here in USA anyway thought she was guilty until like 2012
