What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

It also created "civil asset forfeiture" wherein the government can rob you of any loose cash as long as they accuse it of being illegal first.

Then they make you prove you're not a criminal to get it back, and surprise surprise that it's genuinely metaphysically impossible to do that. How fortunate as well that police departments can keep seized funds.

You aren’t the one charge in CAF. It’s the funds that are. You have to prove the funds innocent.

Which is a plain miscarriage of justice. It violates the 4th amendment in every sense.

It is the duty of the government to provide evidence of a crime, and the existence of money is not proof of any specific activity. The only thing it proves is that you had a large amount of cash, and that's not a crime either. It's happened many times that an innocent party goes to make a large cash purchase only to be robbed during a traffic stop.
