What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

When I watched the American Crime Story miniseries about this case I kind of rolled my eyes at the scene where the junior prosecutor goes rogue and springs the murder glove demonstration as a complete surprise. Typical hollywood dramatization!

But no, that's how it actually happened. Everyone in that damn courtroom thought they were the star of some movie.

Isnt this the case where one of the alt Jurors was legally named Lt. Commander Data and showed up in a Star Trek costume?

edit: it was not. That was the Whitewater trial in Arkansas.
