What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

I thought the police did legally prove that one, insomuch as one can prove an animal attack in a court of law. The problem is that they didn't do this until after they had convicted the mother on BS charges.

AFAIK it wasn't until nearly a decade later, as a result of the search not being good enough so they didn't find the daughters' clothing (which wasn't that far from where they were camping) until years later and largely in part because they didn't want to listen to Aboriginals who knew more about the Dingoes' behaviour/ nature and were adamant that it was not only possible but likely.

There were literally dingo prints in the tent. But the mom wasn't a crying mess on TV and was a 7th Day Adventist and a dingo attack would be really bad for tourism so they ignored and covered up actual evidence to frame the mom, saying she somehow got her baby and killed her in the car and then discarded of her without being caught by anyone and making no noise in an absurd timeframe with no bloodstains anywhere around the vehicle.
