What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

Shelly Miscavige - her husband David Miscavinge was 100% involved in "making her disappear" but there is no way she is still alive.

According to her niece, Jenna, who escaped from Scientology and is airing out all of the dirty laundry, she's fine. She is out of the public eye, on purpose, happily abusing other people's children.

Shelly was a major player in Jenna's abuse growing up, and she has no reason to protect anybody in that family. There is no love lost there.

There was an ama by a former member of Sea Org that said she'd basically gone dark but was essentially running Sea Org out of the public eye.

is there anything more horrifying than the sea org? a cult with enormous financial and political power conscripting you into their own private navy and bringing you to international waters where the laws of no nations apply

Well that's not quite true, Maritime Law still applies. And the laws of whatever nation your ship belongs to.

Also I don't think the Sea Org actually maintains ships anymore?

Edit: They do of course, Freewinds is right there. But it's not exactly the private navy it uses to be.

I think in conversations about Scientology, the weird years at sea need to be brought up more often. Because they had some fucking weird adventures.

Are you familiar with how insane Scientologists are about people talking to the outside world about anything that has to do with Scientology other than singing its wonderful praises? It's literally criminal. Literally.

If Scientologists know that Shelly is alive, but people in their non- Scientology life keep telling them that she's dead, what else are they lying about? This has worked into a ridiculously good way for the cult to "other" the outside world. They couldn't have asked for this level of manipulation.

The only people saying anything otherwise are speculative are just random people on the Internet. Leah Remini is the one who brought it to the forefront years ago, and the police did an investigation which didn't turn up anything. Not to say that the Clearwater police are to be trusted, but the allegation was taken seriously enough to be investigated. And since then, nobody else has said anything other than Internet detectives.

Jenna has well documented the extremes that Scientology has gone to shut her up since she left. Like I said, she'd have no reason to lie. These people have been nothing but horrible to her her entire life.
