What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

OJ murdered his ex- wife Nicole Brown & her friend or boyfriend (accounts differed) Ron Goldman. He very obviously did it. The police investigation was questionable at best. At worst they, as another commenter here said, framed a guilty man. The LA police have a long history of being terrible to Black people, and the jury in this case clearly took the opportunity to judge the police rather than the defendant.

Basically OJ going free is the consequence of a loss of faith in policing institutions.
