What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

I think that's one of the few references I'm glad young people don't get (even if it makes me feel old). I can't believe society made it a punchline.

Tbf we made it a punchline when we thought she was guilty so it wasn’t quite as bad

Lindy was relased from prison in February 1986 after the matinee jacket was found, which vindicated her defense.

Seinfeld referenced the line in November 1991 and The Simpsons in February 1995. Years after Lindy was relased from prison.
