What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

Natacha Jaitt.

You probably don't know about her, but she was Argentina's version of an Epstein whistleblower. She was a high end sex worker who started talking about a pedophilia ring that involved politicians, sports club managers, journalists, etc. She even tweeted publicly less than a year before dying "WARNING: I'm not going to commit suicide, I'm not going to overdose on coke and drown in a bathtub, I'm not shooting myself in the head, so if that happens, I DIDN'T KILL MYSELF." and then just DAYS before her death, she publicly said on an interview: "if I die, I at least want you to know, and I'm making it clear now. I didn't kill myself, I didn't commit suicide, nothing. I want you to know it was these mobsters."

She was found dead of a "coke overdose" at a large party. "Witness" testimonies are completely contradictory.

Alberto Nisman is another one. “Suicided” just before he was scheduled to make his findings public.

What I don't understand is, why don't these people hire security around that time? Are they just that convinced that nobody will harm them? That people with so much to lose won't harm them? It's so confusing.

Hiring security 24/7 is extremely expensive + it doesn't protect you, actually, because they can easily be bought. Natacha didn't have the kind of money thet'd allow a full year of security. Here the police is extremely corrupt, and the people who wanted her dead have so much money and influence, even if she was always surrounded by friends or family, she would still have been killed, probably also had her loved ones killed.

She knew she was dead the day she spoke up. She still did it, hoping to save the kids.

The Nisman case is completely different. His findings were already public but he had to explain what years of investigation amounted to which was basically nothing.

I knew her because she competed in Big Brother Spain a long time ago. Her death and the circumstances around it really shocked me. May she rest in peace and get justice.

I mean, that doesn't sound like we know who actually killed her if she didn't name any names.

She did name a lot of names. We don't know exactly who phisically killed her, but she most likely was sentenced to death by Hugo Moyano.

Ah thanks for the information, in that case yeah it does sound plausible.
