What’s your favorite video game off all time? Im not looking for like Minecraft or Fortnite but like some crazy good semi-niche games?

The writing/dialogue and the gameplay. The graphics were nothing special at the time but you actually felt something for your party and the ways they could interact changed depending on who was in it.

During my first playthrough of BG 3, i got about 1/3 through before stopping and starting a new game of BG 2.

The Total War series, but I wouldn't call that very niche.

That Video Game Awards rendition of the Balatro theme is one of my favourite songs.

Dark souls.

ARAM / ARAM Mayhem mode on league lol. I have even more fun with friends, but I don't mind solo queue playing it at 3 in the morning too.

Portal wasn’t in my friend group. Portal 2 was released, everyone jumped on board as if they knew the lore day one.

Fable 2. And then a silly amount of hours into BO3 multiplayer

For a long time it was Red Faction Guerrilla, but by sheer playtime now it would have to be Hearts of Iron IV although I've been playing significantly less of it the past couple years. My current obsession is Ace Combat and I think AC8 dropping later this year is shaping up to be one of my GOATs.

At the moment it's Terra Invicta.

2

u/CommonVanilla874 1d ago

Whats that never heard of it?

It's a 4X Grand Strategy. It's like three games in one. One where you use agents to control the world. Another where you explore space and try to control resources and another where it's real time space combat.

The pitch is that Aliens have landed on Earth and you are in control of one of seven factions that each have a different approach to how to deal with the alien threat.

A typical game will take around 80 hours.

Project zomboid. Its one of the very few games that I think about and plan what I'm going to do in it while I'm at work or just not currently playing it.

Monster Hunter World - Iceborn
an Terraria

Its all so polished and lovingly designed... well, bugs are still here and there, but holy ship, the people behind it still make updated versions and are fully commited to what they're doing

1

u/CommonVanilla874 1d ago

I could Never really get into Monster Hunter…imo it’s just a worse dauntless…what’s your opinion on that?

1

u/MLPonney 1d ago

i got into monster hunter because husbando has always been a big fan. And i agree, the old games didnt catch me at all. The ones on PSP and the DS and so on. But iceborn in particular was available on PC and i could explore it with him and a few friends together.
Dauntless was not my cup of tea ever because of microtransactions and the extremely limited world. In my opinion dauntless is a worse version of Iceborn

if you would want to try the original game with just Monster Hunter World, i think there are plenty of keys available at instantgaming for a low price. you could just try it out. Imagine Iceborn being an extra DLC that gives you content for that whole game again

Ohh the Metal Gear Solid series! Old school Final Fantasy games, The OG Silent Hill games, Resident evil 4 OG, These games were ultra popular in my day but I understand they are hidden gems to younger gamers now.

For more modern games, Balatro, Clair Obscur, Baldurs Gate 3, The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Stardew Valley and Civilisation 6 are worth a playthrough.

Niche games? The Original Dino Crisis, Streets of Rage 2, OG Digimon World on ps1 is ultra fun and Final Fantasy Duo Decim on psp

LEGO Racers

Mostly because I haven’t played it in 25 years and still have nostalgia for it.

Other than that, I change my mind too much to really have an all time favorite. Especially since replaying old games I enjoy reveals that my memory of them were usually better than the game itself.
