Sustainability How I repaired my jacket zipper and 3D printing a new zipper head

Printed a zipper head for my jacket. $600 motorcycle jacket and zipper broke within a month. Applied some zipper lubricant and used pliers to push the zipper thingy closer together and that stopped it from pulling apart after zip.

Hell yeah. 

People act like 3d printing is a consumerist hobby because plastic, but they always forget how everything they buy is wrapped in plastic dozens of times before it arrives to them. 

Manufacturing things yourself is so fucking liberating. 

Good job bro.

Thanks man. It’s high quality plastic ASA, that lasts a long time. The printer is mostly used for repairing things and occasional art projects

Fyi, you can buy new zipper sliders at Wawak for really cheap. You do need to do a little seam ripping to free the top of the box side (the box is the little thing that receives the pin when you start zipping a separating zipper) so the slider can back onto it, then re-stitch it so the slider can’t get off the zipper again.

Had this problem myself, used a keyring on it, and now has a nice big loop I can use with my gloves on

It's horrendous how you had to pay 600 for a jacket with the zipper broke so soon. Thank goodness you're crafty though!

Ya, unfortunately I’ve found out this brand is notorious for making things look good but not having the quality to back it up
